If you fly RoF enough you don't even notice the lack of trim.

Because everyone has their S-Curves set up to negate the nose up attitude don't they? I certainly do. I'm assuming this could also be done for the LaGG while people wait for trim?

Not sure how many people are using S-curves in RoF (i did that for the SE5a and Dr.I), but being able to set the S-curves in BoS could probably be implemented a bit sooner than the trim feature itself. I'm not sure why it's not possible to modify the curves as in RoF, i would've thought it would be easily possible to port this over.

Would be great if the devs would think about that, atleast as soon as MP starts  .

ROF has a much better s curve system than BOS as of yet, to be honest the LaG is 0 fun for me right now. Do not even fly it..... until the trim issues and controls are fixed I do not plan on playing this too much.

Be sure when multi player starts 80% will be in 109's and the rest will be pissed off because they are getting slaughtered... not looking forward to reading the boards about vulching and getting killed just wheels up....

I don't think you should compare RoF with BoS or any WWII sim when it comes to trim. The speed range in RoF is much smaller in RoF than BoS so the difference in "required trim" to achieve hands off level flight is also in a smaller range. (app. 50 its for Fokker DR1 and app 220 its for LaGG-3). In other words, because RoF has no trim, don't assume BoS aircraft will run just peachy without it. Don't forget that velocity is the squared function in the energy equation so speed makes a HUGE difference in flight control "feel".

Trim is good. Being close to in-trim makes aiming easier in combat. When you are pulling 20 pounds on the stick, your dexterity is lower than when you only have to pull 5 pounds. I always cruised at neutral trim and trimmed slightly nose down for air-to-ground delivery. Even though two axis trim was always available to me on the stick, I never used it in air-to-air for two reasons. First, the speed is too dynamic and you could never keep up, even with electric trim, with the rapidly changing aerodynamic conditions.  Second, I wanted a middle of the road flight response if I ever had to recover from a departure. The german setting of trim for cruise airspeeds makes perfect sense to me.

The best thing about trim is it's ability to reduce fatigue. After a 20-30 minute cruise to the battle space, if you had been fighting the controls the whole way, you would most definitely be fatigued. Do you want to engage in air-to-air or even air-to-ground gunnery with rubbery and jittery arms and legs? Me neither.

Trim in combat is a distinct possibility and one I would train for. It makes sense Bud Anderson knew to use it under certain circumstances. He was highly proficient in his aircraft and had moved well beyond being able to walk and chew gum at the same time. Noobs in combat are often just hanging on for dear life to what little SA they possess. They would probably not even notice the state of trim as their brains were working at 50 Hz in a 120 Hz situation. Anderson had likely a 150 Hz mind in the same circumstance with the ability to recognize the impending requirements on his aircraft and be able to dedicate enough brain power and hand time to make a beneficial adjustment.

My hope is that the developers make trim as realistic as possible. For the German aircraft, maybe that means setting the trim during preflight and not allowing it in flight. For the VVS, it should likely be somewhat slow no matter what you do and somewhat difficult to manage. I don't know how they will do that or if they can. I would like to see it become something that is not a cheat as it has been in the past.

Sorry, i know this is an MP thread but sometimes a target of opportunity is too tough to ignore!

I just got an answer from ZAK regarding the Rudder Problem:

 Hi HeTzeR,

Sorry for delay, I've been away for the traditionally long russian winter holidays. Yes, I know about that rudder issue, I mean the discussion. I'll gie an official reply in the thread about rudder controls soon. Thanks for the heads up.

Cheers,

Zak

That's the way to do it! Ask devs politely, get nice answer confirming the devs are on it!
