SCG_Schneemann Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 I may have screwed something up, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get a co-op mission working using Dserver. I have a second PC for hosting, isolated from my home network (in case it gets hacked), but am having trouble hosting a mission. I have renamed the example mission, created a .SDS for it, and put it in my COOPERATIVE folder, set Dserver accordingly to co-op instead of dogfight, but it plops the mission into the dogfight category online in the master server. Also, I can get in (in dogfight), and spectate, but all airfields are white and I cannot access any planes. My guess is that it is misplacing on the master server for some reason. Co-op seems to be exactly what I need for mission building, but not if I can't host it? Any one else have any luck with Dserver and hosting a co-op mission?
[DBS]Tx_Tip Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Hey Schneem, There is already a Co-Op example that the Devs put in the Cooperative Folder with the update. Is that not in there? You can run this from your PC by creating a Co-Op server through the Multiplayer GUI. As to your Topic question... No at this time you cannot run Co-Op missions from your Dserver. Hopefully with one of the Hotfixes to come this will be rectified as here are a couple things that I've come across. 1) There are several issues with the Manage SDS GUI and its functionability when switching between Dogfight and Cooperative settings. 2) When you start your Dserver you are in essence starting the mission. By this I mean when you create your own Co-OP server from personal PC the mission starts when you, (the Host) clicks ready and the rundown to start timer in the upper right hand corner begins at the length you selected , turns red with 5 seconds to go and the missions starts. To test what was going on I created a 1 plane Co-Op on the small Novo map. Started it up on the Dserver and quickly jumped in the Dserver only to catch the red 2-1 of the rundown counter. Looking in the Dserver it shows the mission running with myself as "Ready". I had missed the boat as you cannot join a Co-OP mission in progress. Possible fix. Enable the Dserver administrator to use the SDS MANAGE GUI and delay the start after a certain time and/or number of players click "Ready". In this way the mission rotates whether or not there is someone in the server or all the slots are filled.. I'm sure they will address this in due course as there are already issues with Multiplayer which have been reported. Tip
SCG_Schneemann Posted March 22, 2018 Author Posted March 22, 2018 Thanks Tip - that's what I was looking for - an answer one way or another. Not yet, it seems. Yes I have the example file, no I do not want to run it (opening ports) on my flight/work PC. My IP has sort of a dynamic IP assignment, and it's a PITA to have to reset/reconfigure the router everytime I want to host. The only way I can get it to work (and it does work great), is to host on a dedicated PC and open a DMZ to that PC... if the PC gets compromised, I just fix just that PC, which just has Dserver on it. Thanks for the answer - I'll await the hotfix.
SCG_Schneemann Posted March 23, 2018 Author Posted March 23, 2018 OK, closer, but I am punting for now... On the Dserver PC I hit PLAY, loaded the stripped game, got into hosting in Cooperation mode, got everything set up, hit launch, and it came up in the correct spot... could join from another PC, but obviously the stripped down server PC puts you in spectator mode, so there is no way to launch the mission. Also, on stripped PC, the mouse goes away, so it's a royal PITA to uncheck boxes and set the settings. Once you have done it though, it remembers, so no big deal. Man, I thought I had it. Just have to wait for the patch/hotfix to run it officially from Dserver. Crap...

After I click ready, nothing happens except for my client account to be marked as ready (in the client and in DServer.exe). The DServer account is seen as a spectator in DServer, and the game never starts.

On the surface it appears to me that the hosting Dserver going into spectator is better than instantaneously starting the mission and not allowing anyone to get in on time. Additionally I now have the same situation. DServer going into spectator while I sit ready. First test a one-off? Switching through the Dogfight and CoOP GUI when initially setting that up may of had an unforeseen consequences. Anyway... Certainly think this can be ironed out with some adjustments within Dserver software. As with the "Skip Mission" option within the Dserver GUI perhaps a "Start Mission" option either through a set time, number of players ready or manually started by the server admin could be incorporated.
SCG_Schneemann Posted March 24, 2018 Author Posted March 24, 2018 Yep, same as Coconut... I guess we just have to wait. It'll be awesome once it's sorted.
SCG_Schneemann Posted May 4, 2018 Author Posted May 4, 2018 I had one of those "Doh" moments once I saw this... Thanks to Temuri for helping and essentially telling me how to do it... You CAN host Co Ops on Dserver - you just need to hit a few flags in the SDS... The steps I was missing is the Coop Quorum defaults to 0, so no one can join. Setting to 1 means you can get in to test your mission, so as soon as you jump in to a plane and hit READY, it starts. It counts down the Lobby Timer seconds. So, for instance, if I wanted to host a Co Op for 8 people, and need at least 4 to make it fun, I would set the Coop Quorum to 4 (minimum amount of people have to join to start mission), and set the Lobby Timer to 300 (5 minutes, because someone always has to pee, is late, needs to go refill their beer, etc.). So... I join, select a plane, and so do three others. Hit ready and mission countdown starts... the rest of the goons have 5 minutes to jump in and get rolling or they are not gonna fly this thing... Simple... 3
Rottweiler Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 Thanks for the explanation. I was trying to figure out why ai wasn't spawning in my coop missions.
