Does anyone have the specific answer to whether or not Auto-Lean settings HAVE to correspond to EXACTLY 33%? I would like to turn off technochat, but I am unsure that visually placing the lever near auto-lean actually works within a range? Any help appreciated..

I suppose you are asking about P-39L-1. If correct, specifying this will get you better answers (hopefully).

From other Threads with the same kind of questions I understood that in fact the values have to be set precisely.

Therefore, on the P-39L-1 it means:

0% - 32% means 0% - 32% mixture setting

33% is Auto Lean

34% - 65% means 34% - 65% mixture setting

66% is Auto Rich

67% - 100% means 67% - 100% mixture setting

What keeps me puzzled is why the techno chat constantly asks me to adjust mixture when I run it 66% aka "Auto Rich".

Cheers!

I don't see any difference in performance or exhaust flame colour if I set it to 65% or 67% instead of 66%.

I guess there's not such thing as manual mixture. Mixture is automatic all the way, from lean-ish settings to rich-isch settings.

I don't positively know, this is only my understanding of how it works.

We've had the very same discussion before and there seems to be no real conclusion about it.

Let me quote just 3 of the many.

For me it's hard to believe that any lever (an analogue device, after all) has, and had, to be set to an exact position with no margin to engage a secondary (this time discrete) device which switches on/off some automatism. For me it's an utter nonsense, but who knows?

Same to me, but better safe than sorry ;)

Unless we know for sure, I'd rather dial in precise values than RTB with a glowing cowling.

Cheers!

Thanks for the responses guys. My experience is the same as those above. Just wondering if there was an official response anywhere because I couldn't find one. Obviously, irl the lever wouldn't need to be exact at 33%. The TAW server is considering restricting the technochat, which I have no problem with, but for the P-39, A-20, P-40 and Mig-3 its pretty important that the levers work in a range and not an exact value. Would a moderator or DEV care to provide an official response?

Doesn't have to be at the exact % but within the input range set for the certain setting.

The reason why technochat might be askin you to change mixture could be that it wants you to fly auto lean in cruise settings to save fuel (his was optional in reality since auto rich was the standard setting for most of the flight).

Uh, as a new player just coming here from DCS, I intend to use this sim with no chats, HUDs and whatnot anywhere. I really hope I don't have to place the levers with pinpoint precision! I guess I'll have to make some fuel burn test flights in the Cobra with slightly altered mixture position and see how long she'll fly.

I never gave it a f..k to set it precisely, and I'm still alive  (sowieso)
