Flying a quick mission on the Moscow winter map in the newly released 3.001 IL-2 BoX I noticed ship icons on the map. This is what I found when I got to them. Not really ice breakers maybe, but still it looked kind of cool. And unexpected. If anyone has posted about this previously, my bad.

I'd call that a bug.

I'd hoped I'd found my first Easter egg in this series.

Love it! Reminds me of helping ships get through the Straits of Mackinac back in the day.

Being from MI, I've always loved going to the Straights and seeing the Locks. The Great Lakes still awe me.

It looks like the winter maps just change the texture of the water, rather than the physics. As a result, the devs have done the smart and simple thing, and just not put any ships in winter missions - but we can put ships on winter maps with the QMB and FMB.

It does remind me a bit of unmodded Silent Hunter 5...

... that one’s definitely a glitch

Cool picture Rekt.

Too bad UBI abandoned SH5 almost as soon as it was released Cybermat47....

No sweat by me. I think it's a fascinating subject. Looking at your second picture shows how closely the developers got to reality modeling the winter maps in this series

Hello Svetlana, I have a funny joke about Stalin to tell you.

How so? In what context have we erred? I posted an IL-2 video with ships in ice. Rekt posted some real life pictures in the same vein. I could find hundreds if not thousands of posts in this forum that have strayed much further away from the IL-2 world than this thread has.

It was a JOKE!

I deliberately chose the wrong context and spoofed a Soviet man trying to break the ice with a Soviet girl, an 'ice-breaker' you see?

My 'wrong context' comment was about MY deliberate mistake and parrt of the JOKE!

Sorry I guess I missed that. My mistake.

I was going to do the same thing...

So...Tatiana...come here often?

Given the multicultural presence here though I was sure some would go "huh?"

Thanks! Full disclosure - I stole that particular one off the internet but I have several just like it back on my home computer ?

Here's one that I know I was actually there for...shows how we would cut a "relief track" down the side of the vessel to take some of the pressure off to help them get going again. That's the last one, I promise...icebreaking doesn't come up often so when it does I get excited LOL

That is very cool.

It's such a disappointment, I had SH5 years ago and enjoyed it as much as I could.

If it had actually worked properly it could have been the BoX of submarine sims.

I would say that the Wolves of Steel mod has fixed the game immensely. And I’m not just saying that because I contributed - all I did was alter a few ships and port one or two over from SH4. The guys who have fixed the gameplay and added new mechanics like working Wolfpacks, schnorkels, a campaign extended to 1945 etc. are extremely talented.
