WIS-Redcoat Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 So I bought the Samsung Odyssey for this game on it’s preorder, and as we all know the IPD issue persists. I am a glutton for punishment as I just preordered the Vive Pro and will share the results once it arrives. Anyone want to take a collector plane bet with the IPD on this higher res headset? I am confident that it won’t work correctly. 1
Wolf8312 Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 yes I will bet you IPD will certainly be fine on the Vive!
Lusekofte Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 (edited) If you have pre ordered the HTC Vive Pro and will give me a review of it, I bet against you . In fact I buy you whatever you choose in BOS shop, wether it is a Collectorplane, Flying circus or BOOB..uhm Bodenplatte or any other pack. If you loose I like an G6, I bought 3 of them but giftet it away. But it is not for me, you gift it to someone that cannot afford it. EDIT: but even if you loose , I still buy whatever you find suited. I will earn money by not buying it. I am waiting for it , if it is no good I probably buy a used OR Edited March 19, 2018 by 216th_LuseKofte
=EXPEND=Tripwire Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 At $800 US for just the headset (not including tax and shipping), I'm not buying one. That is *way* over what I considered would be a reasonable price. That's about $1300AUD before it lands on my doorstep, similar to what I paid for the whole Vive set 2 years ago. Buy the Headset and you can't even sell the original as the Controllers, lighthouse base stations etc would set someone back almost $400. What a joke HTC... I'm waiting to see if LG comes out of the woodwork with something. 1
WIS-Redcoat Posted March 19, 2018 Author Posted March 19, 2018 (edited) Alright Wolf and Luse, your on! I earnestly hope to lose this bet; but I don’t think it’ll work correctly. Edited March 19, 2018 by WIS-Redcoat
chiliwili69 Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Good to know you pre-order the Vive Pro. I will be eager to read your impressions if it works correctly (also vs Odyssey). It will be the one of the clear Rift replacement for the mid term. The rift can still be sold for second hand at a good price.

Headset 800 bucks plus the additional cost of the rest of items needed for it for someone coming from a Rift. I will remain happy with what I have and anxiously await to see what next generation brings down the pike.

It might not be the case of IL-2 but this is up to Jason to pre-order one in US a sent it to the development group in Moscow to test/study how it works. Rift 2.0 (whichever century is released) will incorporate many new things (For sure eye-tracking + foveat rendering) and they will require to re-design many games. Adding more time to the long wait. IF you only use Vive Pro for flight sims you don´t need the controllers. Just one base stations of the earlier Vive. At the end is like the cost of a top graphic card.

I use VR for more than just one or two games. I will happily wait. Pretty sure it will be this century... If Oculus does not deliver I will go with who ever does. But not for an incremental boost in resolution only, especially at that kind of price.
scrapmetal Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 I can't get enough of VR and I waited 30 years for it. Nothing's guaranteed, even tomorrow. I decided to pre-order the Pro. If it doesn't work with IL-2 then I'm pretty sure it will work with one of DCS, X-Plane 11 or others.
I./JG53_BlackJaguar Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 (edited) Already pre-ordered Vive Pro, I can't wait! It will be a nice upgrade from my current Vive. My two Titan Xps in SLI are ready. After playing with Vive for more than a year, in IL2, Elite Dangerous or Project Cars (1,2) I just can't do sims anymore on flat 2D monitor. The higher resolution will come in handy when reading plane instrument planes, in IL2 or DCS. Edited March 20, 2018 by I./JG53_BlackJaguar
RAY-EU Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Pre-ordered VR HTC VIVE PRO 3k for bf 109 G14 , K4 & DCS F18 C in May . & Waiting for VR Pimax 8K after summer for the ME 262 a1 & DCS Eurofighter Typhoon from VEAO Systems .
SCG_motoadve Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 If it works with BOS without having to deal with outside programs and ,modifying anything I will buy it. SO wanna see you guys reviews after you try it in BOS
A_radek Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Vive pro does keep the same fov as the old one? While I've been one of those so badly wishing for more resolution, Lefunestes mod really took care of that problem. Higher res would be nice but I don't 'need' it anymore. So for me the upcoming pimax with it's silly huge field of view now seems like the next upgrade. Even if it's increased fov will almost negate it's increased resolution, I now really 'need' the ability to use my full peripheral vision to keep track of aircraft.
BeastyBaiter Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 $1000+ for a rebranded Samsung Odyssey? No thanks. Admittedly that thing is aimed at VR arcades and such, but I don't run an arcade. I am curious as to if it too has the IPD issues WMR have in BoX.
LLv34_Temuri Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 $800 for a transition period set is way too much.
Archie Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 I will be very interested in the results for il-2, but I'm pretty happy with my $400 Rift for the forseeable future.
Herne Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Does anyone know if oculus is even committed to a cv2 ? I've not seen anything official. I hope the release of the Vive pro at least brings some official news from oculus.

Though they always do that, and as it's their job to hype it could just as well be them announcing another oculus home update, now with 200 customizable backdrops. Not holding my breath.

Oculus Go, Santa Cruz, Oculus Rift are all part of the company's overall strategy of a multi-tiered product offering. They have made some comments fairly recently on this, but can't remember where I exactly saw them. But yes high end PC-VR ( Rift) is certainly still in the plans for their product mix. They have already invested quite a lot in the games and Home interface. My strictly uneducated guess, is we will likely see some concrete information on the next version of the Oculus Rift later this year during Oculus Connect. It would be nice if it were sooner, but I am not holding my breath. I think their plans are for a fairly significant leap forward, rather than an interim smaller leap for the short term. And they are probably not going to do so, until the technology is such it can be run on a somewhat average PC.

I bought a few games there, not many, but I don't think its open in the same way steam vr is open to oculus ? TBH I'm perfectly happy with what have, just wish it had better res, which is effectively what the vive pro is offering. I don't see much in the way of a performance hit in BoX either as our CPU's tend to be the bottle neck, and high end GPU's hardly breaking into a sweat. I'll try and be patient. I'm also after a CPU, MOBO, RAM upgrade this year, and the new generation of GPU is almost certainly going to turn my head, so it is going to be an expensive year.

Some are able to run Oculus Games on the Vive via a program called Re-Vive. It is a backdoor way of doing so, one that Oculus is aware of but they do not necessarily close that door either. But yes, the Oculus eco-system is technically a closed system, at least currently, rather than an open one like Steam VR. I know what you mean, I myself am waiting to see what will come and when in regards to a Rift CV2. In the meantime I am quite content with my current Rift. This thing has been plugged into my PC since Feb 2017 and just keeps churning along problem free. I also though need to upgrade to a new build and will be doing so very likely later this year. So I don't mind waiting a little longer to invest in another VR device.
SCG_motoadve Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Also important to know how demanding the Vive pro will be on PC resources, nice to have higher resolution but if the thing is going to run at 30FPS with a high end system in IL2 BOS then there is no point.
scrapmetal Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 (edited) 1.7x supersampling on the original Vive is the equivalent of 1.0x on the Pro. It shouldn't be a problem for most. Edited March 20, 2018 by scrapmetal typo
TWHYata_PL Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 for thouse who preordered vive pro please write on this forum what is yours shiping date ? I’m wonder who deliver first , Pimax for backers ( like me) or Vive for preorders ppl
WIS-Redcoat Posted March 20, 2018 Author Posted March 20, 2018 It says I will get it on April 5th. We will see.
chiliwili69 Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Vive Pro is still not available for pre-order in Europe. They say it will be available for 5th April , the pre-order https://www.vive.com/eu/

scrapmetal Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Vive Pro is now out of stock in the UK. Someone's buying them.

Yeah they seem to know what market they want to go for. I think 800 dollors is outrageous personally, but hey I also am the owner of an Iphone! I'd rather a Vive pro! The main reason I dont want one is because I want a headset that will perform better and not worse. With PD and MSSA, I have absoloutely no problem with how things look in BOS (especially) or DCS. Resoloution is just not something that bothers me, I'd trade it for better performance any day. I'd go as far to say things look fantastic on my VIVE, but my dream is to one day be able to turn off reprojection and keep a solid 90.

scrapmetal Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 I hope HTC made more than a dozen. At that price I can't imagine them flying off the shelves.

Lusekofte Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 I have it all except from the G6 witch I bought and gifted away 3 of. So I will not hold you to it. I am more interested in a good review if you would be so nice to take the time.

ICDP Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Check from 35 minute mark for preview of Vive Pro compared to Samsung Odyssey screens and optics. Basically this guy clarifies what logic already indicates should be true, namely that the HTC Vive Pro and Samsung Odyssey have identical IQ and in fact he feels the Odyssey has reduced God Rays. They use the exact same panels, so no surprise there to be honest. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPCEqzoxwdA

Wolf8312 Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 In game mail. Okay wait while I check cause I didnt even know there was in game mail! Where do I find in game mail?
