Mysticpuma Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 Well, the excitement began when reading that MODS would be allowed to be created Thing is, it would be really useful to have some idea of how the files can be extracted to be worked on and what files will be allowed to be worked on? I mean will there be an SDK for maps? Can aircraft be added? Effects changed? Currently it's great news that MODS are possible but having no tools or guidelines is pretty much stifling the excitement Cheers, MP
Feathered_IV Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 Probably just a bit of patience is required. The cheaters in multiplayer were responsible for the devs encrypting all the game files within the gtp packages. Hopefully soon they will loosen the grip on some of the textures and SP content so mods can be made.
Mitthrawnuruodo Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 The devs are probably busy with issues discovered after the Kuban release. Once we get a patch, I suspect they can start thinking about new features, including mods.
Jason_Williams Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 We're not responsible for providing tools for modders. We didn't provide any for ROF, we only provided the environment. I think some of you misunderstand the meaning of modding. Jason 2

However, something has apparently changed in the way the BoX files are encoded/compressed/encrypted or whatever into the .gtp files as compared to the way they were done in RoF, and even to do the simple, non-controversial graphics-oriented types mods that proved fun and useful (and non-threatening) in RoF is proving impossible without some sort of guidance/hints as to how to get these files out of the game's .gtp files in a form where they can be opened and edited. I don't think most folks (at least those who don't misunderstand what "modding" means in this context) are expecting the devs to provide a real tool set here, but just getting some info on how to get the files out of the relevant .gtp files would be really helpful. I'm not sure how the creator of the original unGTP utility for RoF figured out how to make that work, or if he had any help/info from the devs back then - maybe we just have to wait and hope someone can figure it out on their own, but it would be nice if we could get a little bit of a helping hand in that regard. SDK + 3DS Max plugin converter (to .mgm files) = tools We can do nothing if we don't understand how the files (especially luascripts) are. (Example here: Craters Mod ) Please thank you for reviewing your position. Cheers Genius Edited March 18, 2018 by -IRRE-Genius
Lemon Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 it is Sunday Mr. Jason.. still working ?!, go play with your not very beautiful dog

Jason I must be missing something How are we supposed to create and use .mgm files for example
Habu Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Ok Jason, but do you want that people can add 3D object to BoX, as some did with RoF ?

Yes of course, but I don't have the plug-in myself or understand any changes between the two regimes to give anyone anything. When I have something I can share I will. Jason
Habu Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 (edited) Ok Jason, thx for that answer which will give us hope for the future. We will wait with Genius (and i'm pretty sure vander too) untill you provide us the information we need. Edited March 19, 2018 by Habu

Bye Genius
=IL2AU=chappyj Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 +1 yeah like a template la script would be highly useful and appreciated
Feathered_IV Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 I was thinking... Some of the scrambled and encrypted files actually get deciphered and displayed on screen in-game. Would it therefore follow that if you copied the encrypted text you wanted to read. Say, the career briefing template for example. Then pasted this body of text into another donor file, like the one that has the game credits... Could you boot up the game and then read the content of the original file?

But we can only extract the files, not encrypt them back in gtp
=IL2AU=chappyj Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 I don't think you need to Provided your txt file is located in the folder as indicated by the ungtp structure it will refer to it in mods on mode 1
Bilou Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 The game only decrypt files in gtps. If you replace a briefing text with some encrypted data, it will display encrypted data.

Feathered_IV Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Bummer. I tried similar with a pilot bio, copying it into the aboutthegame file and loading that as a mod. It gave a black screen too. Feel like I've been given the keys to the kingdom, but all the locks were changed.
