I believe it is set to 150 yds yards and 65 ft for target wingspan by default.

Can i change the default setting so i do not have to change it in-game? I typically change mine to 250 yds and 60 ft.

I have run out of buttons on my stick and it is quite a nightmare to adjust this using a keyboard if i'm using VR.

I think people get too hung up on the adjustable gunsight.  Many aircraft just had a fixed one.   In CLoD I just stopped adjusting it because I knew that at 200yds a 109 or 190 filled half the ring, a 111 or JU88 filled the whole ring and a JU87 or 110 was between the two.     Being out by 10 yds make bugger all difference in a dogfight or when closing fast on a bomber when you will only be at the exact convergence range for a split second and your guns are doing serious damage for 50yds either side.

That is effectively what I want, I've no interest in adjusting it inflight.

I wish to alter the default setting. 60 ft by 250 yds is far more useful than the current default setting.

If you mean before spawning in the plane I think you can't. You have to set it manually while in the cockpit. I usually do it while preparing to roll over the airfields

The ring will always represent a fighters wingspan at 100 yards or twice its wingspan at 200 yards.   Actually what it was designed to show is where to place the nose of a bomber crossing your path at 100mph so that the bomber and your bullets arrive at the central dot at the same time.   Regardless,  once you know the wingspan version then adjusting the bars is pretty much a waste of effort once you leave flying school.    If you want to shoot a fighter at 250yds then fire when he is slightly less than half the width of your sight. If it is a bomber then shoot when the bomber is not quite filling the ring.   Ignore the bars.
