DaGengster Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 (edited) Is there a list of the types of missions able to be generated and an explicit "what is required to successfully complete" description? Like before, for example intercept missions, the mission state "destroy 1 bomber or damage 2 bombers to complete the mission" or "loose no more than 2 ally bombers" to complete the mission. The new ones seem more complex obviously but the descriptions are kind of confusing. I just did a mission in a Yak 1 for destroy ferry and the description was something like make enemy crossing nonoperational. When I reached the location, there were 2 bridges across a river and a bunch of enemy ground targets (Pz 3, trucks and flak 38 halftracks). The AI ally planes seem to drop their bombs on the ground targets and then start strafing targets, completely ignoring the bridge. Then after they run out of ammo, they return to base. I did what they did and got mission failed at the end. So was the target the bridge or the ground targets? If we were supposed to destroy the bridge, I really dont see how this mission is even possible since the AI completely ignore the 2 bridges and 1 set of FAB 100M bombs from my yak 1 isnt enough to destroy both. It would be cool to see the previous mission types reappear as a quick mission option. Like select mission types and have drop down options of what planes the targets are flying and etc. The old missions were repetitive yes, but I found it fun regardless Edited March 18, 2018 by DaGengster
Field-Ops Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 Fulfilling the primary objective seems to give you access to land. The requirements from what I've experienced are about the same as what you posted from the old campaign. "Destroy 1 bomber or damage 2 bombers to complete the mission" or "loose no more than 2 ally bombers". What you experienced no doubt looks to be an oversight, which is bound to happen with this massive release. I also agree that it would be nice to see these career template mission types be accessible in quick mission to get a better feel for how they operate.
Finkeren Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 Hmmmm, I have had one such mission in my MiG career, and although I think our flight spent way too long over the target, we did manage to succeed with the mission. It largely went as in your case: The initial attack with bombs didn’t destroy the bridges, and the flight then went in circles, doing repeated attacks (something like 8 - 10 times). In the process we destroyed every soft target in the area, but obviously our machineguns did nothing against the mix of Panzer IIIs and 38(t) - though my squad mates fired at them continously anyway. At some point, we got the “critical mission assignment accomplished” message and headed home. This did not coincide with the destruction of the last soft target, nor did I receive any radio message that my squad mates were out of ammo. To me it just looked like it was on a timer, but I actually have no idea how it works. 1
Feathered_IV Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 I dived down before my flight had time to engage and bombed the pontoon bridge, getting the objective complete message in yellow a few seconds later. It was still several minutes after that when the rtb message appeared though, so it sounds like you may be right about the timer.
RedeyeStorm Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 By the way. Flying with an F2 I Killed the pontoon bridge with my guns. didn't get a kill stat on it though in the pilot overview. Flight log did show bridge destruction. RedeyeStorm
