taffy2jeffmorgan Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Hi. Is it the cold light of a Russian winter that makes the cockpit layout in both the 109 and Lagg look so drab ? I know it's early days yet with only 36% completed, but if you have flown for example the Me 109 in Cliffs of Dover you will know what I mean ! the layout detail is impressive ! But I suppose everything looks drab during winter, and that summer of 1940 [COD] is remembered for it's beautiful weather. Just thought i would ask to see what your opinions are on that point or any other regarding overall detailing. Cheers. JM.
Fifi Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 While agreeing for CoD amazing cockpits, i don't think it's due to weather conditions in BOS... On my rig, BOS cockpits dash board looks flat, mainly the 109 one, and without any glass reflections the gauges are like drawings, i'm sorry to say. I'm sadly not sure devs will correct this, for final release 3
1CGS LukeFF Posted January 2, 2014 1CGS Posted January 2, 2014 LOL wut? The LaGG-3 cockpit looks excellent right now IMO, and the 109 cockpit just needs a bit of touch-up with the textures. 8
SR-F_Winger Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Agree with lukeFF. Nothing to moan about the details.
Pierre64 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Agree with Luke and Winger Quality of textures is simply amazing! 2
71st_AH_Hooves Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) Its not the quality of the textures. Its the amount. The 109 in Clod uses 21 textures for the cockpit alone. BoS uses 2. Its all about optimization. I hope that they can add some more textures later down the road. But as they stand right now. Id be happy. Im just excited to see more planes. And have the cockpits we have now get the rest of their functionality. All will come in short order. 12 weeks be sure Edited January 2, 2014 by SYN_Hooves
Meteor2 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 While agreeing for CoD amazing cockpits, i don't think it's due to weather conditions in BOS... Schmalzfaust Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) COD is 14 fps BOS is ?fps With TF4.0 patch Clod runs with ~50 FPS too. Edited January 2, 2014 by Schmalzfaust
BigMotor Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Press the "L" key to make it look really good.
Fifi Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) COD is 14 fps BOS is ?fps 14 FPS? At least 45/50 here with my 2 years old card. In fact, Lagg cockpit is pretty nice enough to me. Just the 109 one looks not that good on my PC. Edited January 2, 2014 by Fifi
71st_AH_Hooves Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 You guys are kinda missing the point. It takes 1 year PER AIRPLANE, to make the cockpits up to that quality. While great to look at. The 1CGS team has already stated that they are creating these cockpits and aircraft to a level of quality they deam high and yet not time consuming enough to slow the overall production. maybe if it is a high enough item on the customer wish list, they can go back and add more textures for the A/C in a patch. 3
IIN8II Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I have no complaints, im sure the textures and such will get further refinement.
Fifi Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) Only comparison i can make, even though not same 109 type: a real one VS 2 i own on my PC. Don't have others to compare unfortunately. Best would have been to put it in same lighting, but too lazy to find right position. I just resized screen shots to try to match the real one pict. What puzzle me is the position of real picture stick by the way! Edited January 3, 2014 by Fifi
andyw248 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Thanks for your screenshots! It seems we already got a pretty good reproduction of the original. Add reflective glass, and I'll be happy 2
ShamrockOneFive Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Two things stand out... the light and shadow is much harsher with a near noon sun and there are reflections on the gauges. Everything else from a texture standpoint is fairly similar... maybe Cliffs looks a tiny bit better.
Fifi Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Agreed on reflective glass. I just finally found a good SweetFX setting that makes my BOS 109 pit looking better! But still unable to take pict using SweetFX, even though i mapped a new key for it...always get screen pict without the SweetFX effect Not perfect but still better than vanilla. And it adds good look to Lagg pit as well. It globally enhance the all lighting. To kill two birds with one stone, this setting improve game contrast and color, and it's a bit better to spot planes as far as he is within 2.5Km radius
Fifi Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 As i'm still unable to take pict using SweetFX (even with Fraps - it disable my SweetFX each time for some reason), i tried to mimic what i get now using photoshop. It's just to show what kind of improvment 109 pit can get with SweetFX. Much better IMO. Don't watch outside of cockpit, photoshop messed it up. But inside lighting and definition is pretty spot on (as close as i can match my SweetFX) Before: After:

Btw are you.checking the data folder when you hit your sweet fx key? I changed mine to the number 6 on my keyboard to ensure there were no conflicts. But the data folder is where it stores all your screenies.
Fifi Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 The data folder of?;;;BOS? If so, nothing in it (except regular screenshot, when i take some)
71st_AH_Hooves Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 The data folder of?;;;BOS? If so, nothing in it (except regular screenshot, when i take some) Yes the bos data folder. That is where sweetfx screenshots will save when playing the game. And they should have the effects applied to them 1
Fifi Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Hmm...no chance for me. For some strange reason, screens taken with sweetfx are not here.
71st_AH_Hooves Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 What key are you using to take the screenies? Try mapping it to the number 6. Thats in the flightfx gui.
Fifi Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Hooves, you made my day! My stupid badness...they were there, but far scroll down Thanks a lot mate, now i can post my sweetfx! (preparing some shots to show before/after)
Fifi Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Ok, first is with splitscreen, second is with SweetFX, others are before/after (vanilla/SweetFX). It greatly improve ground details. As in ROF BTW.
Reflected Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Only comparison i can make, even though not same 109 type: a real one VS 2 i own on my PC. Don't have others to compare unfortunately. Best would have been to put it in same lighting, but too lazy to find right position. I just resized screen shots to try to match the real one pict. What puzzle me is the position of real picture stick by the way! The reason why CloD looks so much better is not the textures. They're almost the same. But In CloD there is a high contrast between light and shadow, and that makes the whole thing come alive and look 3D whereas in BoS it's quite dull and flat because the lack of shadows. That CloD shot of the 109's cockpit looks better than the real photo! :D
Fifi Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Finalized my SweetFX settings, by decreasing the overall blue color to close original colors. Looks really good now. If anyone interested, here my SweetFX text file SweetFX_Il2_Fifi_settings.txt I'm using ROF FlightFX with it. 3
flugkapitan Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Thank you for posting the text file! Cheers, Scott
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 Thanks Fifi. That is excellent work, getting back to my original post which opened this can of worms, the question of cockpit detail with Clod in mind is answered in the post from the production team. " What we know so far, Battle of Stalingrad " quote " Cockpit details will be modified to Clod level !!! One other thing, Could you post in more detail how you applied that alteration to the color tones in that screen shot " 109 smoking Lagg 3 " Cheers. JM.
SR-F_Winger Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 has a little red touch fifi. Coudl you upload your SweetFX settings please? Are you using flight FX?
PA-Sniv Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Thanks Fifi, will look into it whenever I have time to tweak my FlightFX settings! Cheers,
Fifi Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) One other thing, Could you post in more detail how you applied that alteration to the color tones in that screen shot " 109 smoking Lagg 3 " In the Technicolor tab of SweetFX, you can alter the red green blue color as you like. Increasing the value of negativeamount in fact decrease the color. has a little red touch fifi. Coudl you upload your SweetFX settings please? Are you using flight FX? It's in post above. Yes i use FlightFX, easier to make adjustments Edited January 3, 2014 by Fifi

" What we know so far, Battle of Stalingrad " quote " Cockpit details will be modified to Clod level !!! I missed this of your post Where did you get this info??...because i can read in "what we know of BOS so far": Cockpit details will not be modeled to CloD level. (LOFT) Edited January 3, 2014 by Fifi
