GunneryAce Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Hey everyone! I recently upgraded a PC (using half of the old parts) to an 8700k with a Corsair H100i cooler, gtx 1080Ti, asus maximus x mobo, 32gb 3200mhz, running IL-2 off of an M.2 SSD... I overclocked my 8700k on all cores to 4.8ghz. Voltage at 1.35 set in Bios, Load Line Calibration is at 6 currently. I had AVX offset at -3, but I saw a recommendation to disable it to run IL-2 well. I also saw that it's best to turn down the LLC to 1 or 2 but when I put LLC to 2, and ran Prime 95 it crashed. IL-2 ran fine with AVX disabled and LLC at 6, but the FPS in the campaign was at 45-70fps when there was alot going on, on-screen. I disabled the HUD, and still getting lower frames than I was getting on my previous PC which was getting 90fps (with a 7700k at 4.7ghz). Anyone have any suggestions on in-game graphic settings also?

Were your higher frames on the old system pre the 3.001 patch though?
GunneryAce Posted March 16, 2018 Author Posted March 16, 2018 Yes I got 90 fps no problem in the campaign with my previous build with the 7700k OC 4.7Ghz and the Gigabyte Z270xp-sli mobo. Those were the only 2 things I upgraded. Maybe it's something with the new update? It seems like it's more straining on the computer with the 3.001 update and this new campaign mode.
Wolf8312 Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 (edited) Yes it could well be the new update many people, myself included, had horrible performance at first. Do a clean install, perhaps even cleanly install nvidia drivers as well. I even did a system reset because I had messed with some registry settings, but I doubt you need go that far! Obliterate any mods you may have been using. It's really running very well for me. I mostly only see 90 on my FPS counter and the missions are full of assets compared to the old campaign! Graphics on high (important for clouds) Clouds on high (important for clouds) MSSA on 4x Draw distance- 100km resolution 800x600 Terrain filter- Blurred Pixel desity 1.4 steam VR Pretty much everything else off. Runs very well but am tempted to drop MSSA down to 2x to give myself a bit of overhead, as the last mission I flew had no clouds. I think these are the main settings for making things look nice but most are also settings that will tax your system, though I get the feeling that BOS is now very well optimized for the 1080Ti i7-8770k combo. Highly recommend getting a program like Asus Suite 3 for your PC which allows you to create an overclock profile that will run only when the game is running and allow you to monitor the temps. My air cooled rig probably shouldnt run a 5. ghz OC constantly but by using a profile, I only use the OC for 2 games BOS and DCS. Not sure how much the OC makes a diffrence though, it has pretty good single core performance anyway, though from looking at all the assets BOS is now able to run, its hard to beleive its only running mostly on the one core. Thanks Wolf8312. Have you made any changes in the NVidia Control Panel for IL-2? Also, some people on the forums are telling me to use the Oculus Debug Tool or Oculus Tray Tool to change the supersampling, instead of Steam VR's settings. Someone in this forum in the the VR section also wrote to put SteamVR SS to 3.2. I manually overclocked the 8700k to 4.8ghz using Der8auer's method on Youtube. I put the Core Voltage to 1.35, all cores to 4.8ghz, and Load Line Calibration to 6, but in that same forum they suggested to disable the AVX Offset and to change LLC to 1 or 2. Should I even do that? I tried to download Asus Suite 3 but couldn't find the download and when I finally found it in the drivers section, it wouldnt install for some reason. I'll try again. I have a fresh install of windows 10 and I reinstalled IL-2 last week since I upgraded to the 8700k now.

katdog5 Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 You should be crushing it. Def check out the spreadsheet and see who has your setup at the top of the list. Then see what they did or didn't do and why not etc You should be at 5.0 easy. + other OC Specifically, the tab Main 2017 in the spreadsheet. The top 3 guys in there with your setup

No except for prefer max performance and max pre-rendered frames to 1 (no idea if this does anything positive for VR but it was suggested I think). I'm no authority on the subject of overclocking dude so I wont tell you what's right for your system or pretend I know what I'm talking about. I used an auto overclock (included with ASUS suite but heavy handed) and dialed back a bit on the voltage, and I dont have any problems. I had problems however by using auto OC's via the bios. I will say though that insane torture tests that put your temps up to 80-90 degrees are no indication of how your CPU will perform in BOS if you are only using a profile for that one game. The main thing is to monitor in game temps over a period of a few weeks and months and see how it performs. Mostly mine stays around about 40, sometimes fifty and rarely will spike to 60. These are perfectly acceptable temperatures for me considering I use a profile and am not using the OC 24/7. In this way you can just use the OC when you really need it, and avoid taxing the system. Thanks again. I actually did have AI Suite III Installed and didnt notice, but it just repeated all the Bios settings and lets you tweak it while in windows. Pretty cool app though!
