I have a Rift headset, and run the game through SteamVR.

Apparently ctrl-numpad 1 enables and disables ASW. When I press this, nothing seems to happen. My framerate remains the same (45 fps). Is there some indication that ASW has been enabled/disabled?

ctrl-numpad 1 works for me. Are you sure you have NumLock on?

It is best ( IMHO) to use the Oculus Tray Tool for consistent results.

You can download it from here:
https://forums.oculusvr.com/community/discussion/47247/oculus-traytool-supersampling-profiles-hmd-disconnect-fixes-hopefully/p1

I would encourage you to read the included manual for details on what all it can do.

Set up a profile for BoS with your ASW and other settings.

I use it to set ASW off, audio switcher ( to switch to Rift audio), max performance for my system, etc...

Are you sure that IL2 uses Oculus Debug Tool (or Oculus Tray Tool)? If SteamVR is on, doesn't it work through SteamVR's settings?

Posted

I am a bit confused about this as well... in order to play using my Oculus, SteamVR has to be running. Are people running the game outside Steam? If I am running SteamVR, how is ASW controlled?

I think that's incorrect also. If SteamVR is running (like IL-2 Sturmovik forces you to do), then Oculus Debug Tool and Oculus Tray Tool's settings won't work.

Unless somehow they're running IL-2 Sturmovik outside of Steam VR somehow. If so, how can we do that?

If you buy IL2 directly from the publisher, it doesn't run through Steam, right?

100% Positive.

Oculus Tray Tool works just fine.

Yes it runs through Steam VR, but also it runs through the Oculus Runtime as well. It is a two layered approach, versus just one if it had Oculus native support.

Hmmm. I never thought about it that way. I bought mine through steam I Believe, so I dont think there's any way around it.

So then why is everyone saying to change the SteamVR SS to 3.2 when you can control it through OTT or the Debug tool?

IS there a guide for Oculus Rift users?

Bos requires Steam VR, as they did not put in native support for Oculus.

Only reason one has to have Steam is to have Steam VR. No need to start Steam, can just let Steam VR start when launching the game. Unless of course the game was purchased through Steam and it runs through it.

You can set up IL-2 as a profile in OTT and assign audio confirmation. Then you should hear the profile is activated when you start the game. If you hear that it should be working fine.

Probably it helps if you run OTT as admin. I had a few cases that it was running but it had no effect. So I look for the audio confirmation now to make sure it's okay.

Yep I have a profile for all my VR games. Works great.

The ASW is a technology created by Oculus. So it affects the Oculus Runtime process.

The Oculus team created a set of hot-keys to enable/disable/force45/ etc to allow developer to test ASW in game easily during the game (and no need to go to Oculus Debug Tool).

The set of hot-keys are:

CTRL+Numpad1: Disable ASW, (your fps will be any value between 45 and 90 fps)

CTRL+Numpad2: Force apps to 45Hz, ASW disabled

CTRL+Numpad3: Force apps to 45Hz, ASW enabled

CTRL+Numpad4: Enable ASW (your fps will be just 45 or 90 fps)

So the above keys should always work when using the Rift at any game.

I myself don´t use ODT/OTT to set SS or ASW.

I use SteamVR to set SS (I leaved to 2.3)

When I lunch IL-2 it automatically launch SteamVR, but Oculus Home is not launched thanks to the Don trick.

And then the hot-key to set ASW Off when I am in IL-2.

Is the general advice still to disable ASW?
