Cow_Art Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 (edited) Long time lurker first time poster here. Let me start off by saying that I really love the new campaign. As a SP-only player I couldn't be happier right now. Great work devs! There is one small thing though: My situational awareness sucks, so I currently need the aircraft labels to enjoy the game. Unfortunately, the labels which normally show the aircraft type now turn into pilot names when an aircraft is close enough. And that's really cool for identifying my AI squadmates. But for enemies... not so much. Now when I look behind me and see an enemy "Klaus Something" at my rear, I have no idea if he is flying a Bf109 or a Ju52. Is there a way to turn off this feature (at least for enemy aircraft)? Thanks! Edited March 16, 2018 by Cow_Art
ATA_Vasilij Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Understand your point, but be sure Ju52 will be not at your 6 I wanted say that names above the planes give the game another dimension. Love it. Because there is a particular pilot in the plane, and I am getting emotional relation to them, So its more about peoples, not just machines. Glad for that.
Danziger Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Yes I like this one a lot. Since we don't have control over AI skins yet I can recognize if I'm in a fight with one of those famous aces or not.
Finkeren Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 I’ve turned off aircraft labels in my careers now, but I found it a bit off-putting as well. I don’t want to know the name of the cow that provided the steak I’m eating either.

Sure, I was exaggerating I totally get that it can be cool to have a name to your enemy and perhaps recognize a famous ace. What I meant was that I now find it much harder to assess the threat level of an enemy I just noticed on my six. I guess I really should start to work on my situational awareness.. but for a not so experienced player it can be a bit overwhelming at times. Edited March 16, 2018 by Cow_Art
Stryker07 Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 RoF has this as well, so I kind of expected it. It is cool to see the names of your squadron pilots next to you in flight. I was so happy to see AI aircraft using mods that it almost killed me I swear, so some other things I didn't notice until after flying for a bit.

I guess I got so used to seeing the pilot's names when the planes got close in PWCG, I did not even think about it when seeing in the new Career. Edited March 16, 2018 by dburne
PatrickAWlson Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 It's pretty straight forward from a mission file point of view. What is in "name" in the mission file us also the label that is displayed when icons are on. Finally, "Name" is recorded in the logs on spawn. It is the last that led me to use this field in PWCG as it allows me to match a pilot with a plane when I analyze mission results. 1C has many more options than I do as they own the code. Maybe they did this because they like it or maybe they did it for the same reasons I did - it works.
RothbardVso1*3 Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Back in IL-2 there was a way to change the view distance and colors for tags, based on a file you could edit in notepad. You could set the view distance for the tags to appear, have them first show as grey for unknowns, and change to proper color for IFF purposes at a much closer distance. I loved it. Is this possible in BoX?
