fiddlinjim Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 (edited) I fly on ULTRA with all settings maxed out, except shadows, grass and mirrors which are set at midpoint. I get a consistent 44-45 FPS with VR in 3.01 Campaigns, same as in previous versions, and everything is absolutely smooth as glass, no big stutters, no micro stutters, no shimmering, no glares and no complaints.. The scenery is great, dials and gunsight are clear and easily visible, with any amount of planes, AA activity, smoke, artillery, vehicles, tanks etc. I don't understand the drive for 90FPS when 45 FPS appears perfect satisfactory. Please Explain. My Rig Win 10, i7-7700K Liguid Cooled, GTX 1080Ti, 32 GB, 1TB SSD, 4TB HDD, TM Warthog, Saitek Pedals, Edited March 15, 2018 by fiddlinjim Update Info
SCG_motoadve Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 I used to play at 45FPS ,I had the same opinion as you, even posted a thread, then upgraded my PC and started to play at 90FPS, its smoother, enemy planes seem a lot faster too, when they cross in front or towards you, more fuild. Havent gone back to 45FPS

Havent gone back to 45FPS I have a 1080, 4790k and 32gb RAM and I can't get much above 50FPS even with the settings bottomed out. How do you get 90FPS?
SCG_motoadve Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 The processor helped a lot i7 8700K @5.0 and a 1080 Ti overclocked.

It's the same as playing on a monitor with 30fps vs 60 or even 144fps. Some people are happy with 30fps (mostly console players ), others need at least 60fps. I am in the latter group. Even when watching youtube videos I see a difference between 30 and 60fps. The same applies to VR. I see stutters whenever fps drop below 90 (even with ASW), and it's not acceptable to me.
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 I agree marklar. As an added bonus, to shoot deflection successfully gets much easier on high fps.

Obviously being able to maintain a constant 90 fps is the ideal solution, but currently at least in a combat flight sim that is going to be difficult to do for most folks. I fly with ASW off, and with the new Career over Kuban my fps will run from the 40's to the 80's usually, with occasional peaks to 90 fps. So far the Career missions I have flown have a lot of activity going on also. But it is still very smooth to me, no visible stutters, and I have a great experience with every flight. And that is what counts to me.
Wolf8312 Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Thats what I dont understand Dburne, if I turn off reprojection on the Vive, the game becomes more juddery and motion sickness becomes apparent. Have you just got used to this feeling as with the 'VR legs' concept? Or are you using another technology that behaves in a similar manner to ASW?

Well obviously I am using a Rift, and I imagine it's ASW implementation is probably a little different than the Vive's re-projection. Can't really explain why it is still smooth for me with it off, but it is - also even in DCS it is smooth with it off and it is very demanding graphics wise. Only time I really start to see it stuttering is if it drops much below 45 fps, like into the 30's - then it will.
Wolf8312 Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 Is it not because it's still using time warp technology or something? Or do you perhaps use steam VR or have left it checked without realizing it?

chiliwili69 Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 Every person is essentially subjective. (that´s the reason of the success of Homeopathy! F....shit) If you are fine with 45 fps, problem solved. Don´t continue to read below. If you are curious about the differences with 45 and 90 then put a graphics settings and scene (no clouds, just 2 planes, etc) that allow you to get 90fps consistently. Then you can play around with these two keys: CTRL+Numpad1: Disable ASW, (you should be always at 90fps) CTRL+Numpad2: Force apps to 45Hz, ASW disabled Now move your rotationally and transllationally in all directions. You will see gauges and planes around are smoother at 90fps. If you don´t notice difference: Problem solved. If not, try to adapt your graphics settings to be at 90fps most of the time.
ironk79 Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 (edited) i rather sacrifice graphic candy for fps. 90fps is the only satisfactory way to for me to enjoy and play vr, even if this means no carrier or campaign in the near future. Untill now small pwcg mission an quick fly missions still do the job. I cant live with the jittery cockpit or passing planes, breaks immersion like nothing else. Edited March 19, 2018 by ironk79 1
