Music/SFX simple mod idea - Career mode

Would it be possible to have a folder available that would play sound files during:

1. Different menu screens of the Career mode

2. During flight

If possible there would be a tag for each nation, as they are added, and multiple file support, maybe something like this:

(location to play, file number)

menuA1_rus.ogg/mp3/wav,etc...
menuA2_rus

menuB1_rus

inflight1_rus
inflight2_rus

menuA1_ger

menuA2_ger

menuB1_ger

inflight1_ger
inflight2_ger

This way we could add a lot of audio "flavor" and immersion to the game and have it be all user supplied.

Any chance?

Hey Astro, I compose soundtrack-ish music as a hobby. I brought up in-game music awhile back with the community, this was when I was creating a 110 SP campaign. By far most people DO NOT want to hear in-game music.

However with the career mode it would certainly work I think! Those wait times are pretty long in career mode (even on my i7 system) and it would be nice to have some background music. I did talk to Jason a bit about music in the past, maybe I'll bring it up again. If I made custom tailored music I don't want to do it for free (orchestral music takes a LONG time to make, makes electronic music seem like a childs game). If the devs want to use any of my previous composed work they can have it for free as some sort of donation...

I'm an audio professional in real life (among other things) ;)

I just want the option to add in the music, more so during the Menu screens, even some simple music editing of pre-composed scores would be fine. Original is always an option as well but I'd be fine just editing for the game.

It would be a great addition.  I had a similar arrangement worked out in the original Il-2 series.  However, instead of music, I made background hum and static of the radio in your ears with distant chatter from other units.  It worked really well and kept you engaged during long flights.

Yes for sure, that is why just files, so you can easily lay in a background sfx loop, even while in-flight to add to the immersion.

Anything other than simple sound replacements would probably require custom code. I don't think that will be possible.

If someone works out how to just change the existing sounds let me know. Being able to change the music file, as well as the airplane/flak gun thing with something more fitting will be appreciated

It is possible to extract the sounds with the FSB extractor tool.  http://aezay.dk/aezay/fsbextractor/

I haven't been able to repack the FSB with modded files yet, although I assume it is possible with the right software.

The only downside with the FSB package is that you need to unpack/repack for every single mod and every single game update.  Keeping on top of it would be a massive pain in the crack.

Well apparently there is no way of repacking the FSB files (at least not without the help of the devs, or someone very knowledgeable in the matter i guess) :(
