What to Expect from the Yak-7

I don't know much about the Yak-7 and right now I'm feeling too lazy to do my own research on the subject, so I decided I'll just let the people who do know educate me.

 

What can I expect in terms of performance, fighting style, etc from the Yak-7?

It's a Yak is the short answer. It is different than the other Yak fighters in subtle ways but its easy to jump between the three of them.

I took it for a QMB run, it feels like any of the other Yaks. I'm sure it has a different top speed and slightly different turn rate, but not enough for me to notice in a quick test flight. If you like the Yak-1, you'll feel at home in the Yak-7.

Those who don't have the 1B will like the rear visibility and the firepower.

Going by the official figures it slots in between Yak 1 and Yak-1b   but closer to the 1b.  It is heavier so does not climb as well as either of the others (about 0.7 m/s lower at 3k and 0.9 m/s  at 6k) but the top speed is almost identical to the 1b. The turn time is also identical to the 1b but it does it  40km faster!  Rear view is not as good as the 1b, obviously, but a lot better than the Yak-1

 

Two pluses:-   It has twice the firepower of the 1b.  Its diving VNE is 20km faster. 

 

 I would still say that if you have a choice the 1b might be a better option (except for the guns maybe) but one factor that might come into play if the Server creators are on the ball is that it is *nearly* as good as the 1b but can be used in maps where the 1b has been banned for not being in service yet.
