The Controllers lose settings after USB disconnect -Why?

I have mentioned this before but the Controls are really bugging me on this. Why when you unplug the USB and plug it back in on the same USB Port, does it then lose all it's the settings ingame? I can unplug my TM Hotas for DSC World, My fifa 2013 Logitech Joypad and they all pick the game up as soon as I plug them back in. Why doesn't this do the same thing and just pick the controls once the controller is plugged back in before starting the game? Instead I have to redo all the settings and that's so annoying.

I don't know why BOS would not pick it back up, but yes I would think as long as you plugged your HOTAS back into the same USB port, all your settings should remain intact.

Why don't they maybe add something that will save your settings to a profile and remember your controller when you load it?

But they don't remain intact that's the problem. My CH Quadrant losses all it's settings as does the Tm Hotas Joystick.

Does it also lose it's setting when you power off the computer and power back on?

I have to say I have not tested this myself, but normally I would expect the game to retain the settings.

Not when I power off my computer no. I have just found out when it does do it though now I have had time to mess about with it. This only happens when I switch off my Usb Hub, so I guess I won't be switching off individual Usb ports on the hub anymore.

I still hope they introduce something like DSC where you can save and load your profile though. That would be so cool and save people the hassle of having to redo their controls if ever they lost them.

I don't know how your set up works but I have to ensure I reconnect my devices in the correct order.

I use a X-45 throttle, a MS FFB2 and Logitech (steering wheel :() pedals and if I'm not careful about the order I reconnect them then all my games screw up their settings.

Perhaps when you power up your hub it connects your USB devices in the wrong order ?

My Usb hub has 6 switches. I now know if I switch my controls off on the hub using any of these switches then this Sim losses all it's settings. This doesn't happen for other games, but I will just have to leave the hub on all the time now. No big deal, but I do wonder why it does it. You could be right though, in that it may see my usb devices in the wrong order.

I am sure they will, ROF has an excellent save feature for controller settings, heck it even has a "response" export which saves any custom curves set up in it as well. I imagine for BOS the responses and controller config will probably all be in one file, rather than two separate ones like it is in ROF- but undoubtedly it will have that ability.

Can you save it such so that you can load it per plane if you wish?

That would be awesome!

Yes, when you set up the controller responses in ROF, there is a tick box to make it for either all planes, or individual planes.

I use it for individual planes, and offset my curve for each fighter to trim it better for level flight ( as those kites don't have trim).

Hmm, if they did that for BOS, might come in handy with the Lagg :)

Edit: To clarify, I "think" that ability is only in the response file, not the controller assignment file...

Edit2: I just went into ROF and double checked, I was correct the responses file is configurable per aircraft and able to be saved " exported" that way. Input ( controller assigments) are global for all aircraft.

If I unplug my usb joystick, ped's, throttle or what have you.... even if I plug them in the same spot my computer re names/numbers them. I don't care what game it is it will be off. If DCS has my throttle as joy_0 and I unplug it, plug it right back in it shows it as Joy_1 and my stick as Joy_0 so its all hosed up. All my setting are there but because its looking at Joy_0 instead of joy_1 I have to re-do everything in any game. I try not to unplug anything! And I dread the day I have too!

Well maybe you should buy a Usb hub because I just stumbled on something I didn't know before. With the hub plugged into a single usb port on the computer motherboard and left switched on, I was able to unplugged the CH Quadrant from the Usb on the hub and then plugged it back without it lossing it's settings. I just found that my controls were picked up straight away. Maybe this has something to do with the hub been left on, but I am not sure. Someone in this thread already mentioned that your controller should still be recognized by just putting it back in the same Usb port on the Motherboard even without a hub, but again I'm not sure if that is suppose to work for everyone. Seems strange it works for some and not others.

Edit: I also found using this program helps because somehow it doesn't completely shut off the usb as in totally switch it off. The program is called USB Deview, and it allows you to enable and disable your Usb ports to your hearts content. It's also free.

I plug all of my controllers, TM HOTAS Warthog, Pedals, Track IR5, and CH Throttle Quadrant, into a powered USB hub.

Perhaps that is why I have not seen that issue, I know I have unplugged them couple of times on this new system.

Joystick and pedals plugged directly into USB ports on the computer for me. I've had the stick get disconnected, and reconnected, never lost any settings in BoS. Went right back to working when plugged back in.

Hmm I do have a powered hub its got TrackIR, ped's, TQ and Pro throttle in it.  May have to change some stuff around. Thanks for the link too.

I also plug in TrackIR3, Saitek flightpedals, joystick Saitek X52 and my own buttonbox that I built myself with a Leo Bodnar Circuit (BU0836X 12-Bit Joystick Board), into a powered USB-hub. It works pefectly. I can unplug the hub and plug it in again and it still works.

Works with FSX, IL2 1946, Cliffs of Dover and now BOS.
