Seeing Cockpit Shadow Jaggies With New Vid Card

Recommended Posts

Posted

Got a new EVGA GTX 770 sc for Christmas and just installed yesterday and seeing a lot of details that I was missing with my old 480.  However, in the cockpit I'm seeing some jagged lines - but it seems to be just the shadows.  Anyone else seeing this?  Is there a fix?

Yeah I have a GTX 770 lighting and I get the same thing. Looks like the shadows are in a much lower resolution inside the cockpit compared to everything else. I also had a 480 before, loved that card, could fry an egg on the thing but it was a beast of a card.

I have the same thing, though I never really bothered to mess with the settings to try and fix it. Running 'Nvidia high' settings for shadows iirc.

Copy that   :(

same here with my MSI GTX 770 Twin Fozr.

Hey, I'm not alone? I thought it was supposed to be that way.

I have been seeing jaggies on the shadows in the cockpit all along, first with my previous system with a GTX 560 Ti, and now with a GTX 770.

glad I've got company

From ROF experience apparently the low res shadows are an optimisation.

Seen it since day one, although I do have an old graphic card  (GTX 260)   But as said,it´s in the cockpit I see it.

Ugly shadows here too, gtx 570.

Actually, if you pause the game and take a look around by moving the mouse, you will notice the whole cockpit is a horrible jag-fest

I hope this is just a pre-alpha thing goin to be fixed...

I get the in-cockpit jaggy shadows as well, and also in ROF. I'm pretty sure I remember reading a comment from Jason somewhere saying that it is indeed a performance optimization feature. I was able to clean the shadows up by setting shadow quality to "Maximum", but it had too big an impact on my framerate. I've just learned to live with it, doesn't bother me too much.

I see them too. I think it is just an optimization thing. If they do fix it im sure it wont be until after they determine all other content is running slick as snot. As ive seen they get things to a pre determined level of quality, then move on to the next item to bring that up to snuff. I do agree that the shadows.need some serious anti aliasing though. The best place for this thread to live is in the suggestion thread. Its a legitimate request with lots of agreeing parties. Maybe it stands a chance.

Exactely this.

In ROF, whatever settings i tried never increased the incockpit shadows rendering.

Was afraid of this issue in BOS as well, before release, and have to say it's even slightly worst than in ROF here on my rig using SweetFX...

Never had this incockpit shadows problem in any other sim though.

So, if devs are making this optimisation obligation in both games, maybe it's engine related?

I had the same issues too in which the cockpit looked totally crap compared to everything else.

I found that disabling SSAO in the startup.cfg in the data folder fixed the issue.

Where is says ssao_res change it to 0

where is says ssao_samples change it 0.

Cockpits now look really good.

Also change the startup.cfg to read only

Nothing to do with SSAO here.

I turned it off from day one, and here is my vanilla incockpit shadows:

(it seems i'm unable to take screenshot using SweetFX - it's even worst)

Those look pretty good to me Fifi, mine are even worse with 3 screens.

I think shadows are a pretty performance consuming feature in this game. So possibly the devs decided to not give up too much performance just for the shadows. I got an AMD card and when i put my shadows to high i get about the same quality in shadows like Fifi. And to be hones i am happy with how they look.

Ill see and make a screen this evening when i get home just to have some comparison.

I recall the cockpit shadows and LOD of the edges of the runways were much better (at a greater distance) a couple of weeks ago. The latest update went backwards a little for the jaggies. I have the same vid card and settings since day one.

If I remember right the shadow settings were different in last version, now in this version those are same as before the last. There is a slight possibility that I might remember wrong, but I think that might be it.

Those are not really jaggies and an acceptable 1024x1024 pix shadow resolution.
These are jaggie shadows you talking about??

Not really they are still high enough resolution compared to games like FSX/P3D and many others.
Being a flight sim having 100$ accurate shadow maps is pointless as the shadows you barely look at for a long time

No. I'm talking about these jaggie shadows: http://imgur.com/a/XfFYS

I get them with a brand new rig, 3.4 Ghz, GTX 1080, Ultra settings.

According to Jason, the current project lead, they are normal: https://forum.il2stu...-are-pixelated/

And according to a bunch of customers, it is normal for them too (see this thread).

When you are flying with the sun directly behind you, do you see these jaggies? If you don't see these jaggies, what have you done to modify the game code?

For the love of all that is holy, don't take Sshadow's "sage" advise. It's usually misguided, sensationalist or completely made up.

I am sometimes amazed how some very old threads get revived.

This "issue" has been in existence since the original development of BoS, and Jason has stated multiple times they are very much aware and currently nothing really can be done about it.

I have learned just to not pay any attention to it...

And ignore people who don't understand sarcasm or being trolled.

I convinced over 85% of the forum i thought salt was a metal - Hilarious (trolling lost on this forum)

Lmao Elitists are hilarious

Anyways back to OP that 2nd pic you linked me appears to be a control panel issue or settings issue. (while i might have this i have noever noticed it)

As thats no low res shadows but LOOK closely only your shadows cast through transparent Textures are all blurred it seems. (only some are jaggy)

Have you tried the CORRECT Nvidia control panel profile (Primary right profile for Max Quality and Performance.)
