Good question.

Indeed a good question. Every time I try to host a mission I get sent back to the multiplayer screen ...

Has anyone managed to get hosting a session to work, and if so...how?

Yes, you need configure port forwarding on the router for ports tcp/28000 tcp/28100 from outside to inside home network.

For port forwarding, you should look at the router user's manual.

Both ports for UDP and TCP are forwarded.

Odd thing is I have hosted before and not encountered this issue.

Try this.

My friend had open ports 28000/28100 UDP/TCP for both, but I still can't connect....

I tested with an other friend and it works, so the problem come from my first mate. ^^

Yesterday I performed an additional check. When connecting through a home router, it is necessary to forward the ports tcp/udp 28000,28100 from the provider interface to the internal PC ip-address. This setting is done on the router, and is generally described in the user's guide. In my case, it is called a "Virtual Server".

Additionaly tunning startup.cfg:

[KEY = network]
    available_ip = "[object Object]"
    client_download_traflimit = 99000
    client_ip = ""
    client_upload_traflimit = 99000
    downloader_port = 28100
    server_download_traflimit = 1000
    server_upload_traflimit = 1000
    tcp_port = 28000
    udp_port = 28000

p.s. sorry for mistakes, i`m use google translate :)
