Panzerlang Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 This is basically a seat with a floor-pan for the pedals that will go up against my modified desk (switchable panel cut out of its surface to make room for the center-mounted stick).
SR-F_Winger Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Awesome! Cant wait to see further progress. What stick are you gonna use? I can recommend either a warthog with extension or even better a schreinerschmids KG 20. Pedals are MFG Crosswind first choice!
Panzerlang Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 The Warthog was delivered yesterday, Sahaj posted my extension (10cm) yesterday. I'm using Saitek Pro pedals.
SR-F_Winger Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 The warthog with extension works like a charm and is very precise. once the small rubberdampener in the stickbase starts to get loose (and it with no doubt will) just pull it out as a whole. I dont really know why they put that thing in in the first place:)
AndyHill Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) Is that stick sitting perfectly straight? I would suggest rotating it about 15 degrees counter-clockwise (viewed from the top), that way you will probably get a more comfortable arm position. Edited January 2, 2014 by AndyHill

VR-DriftaholiC Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Why not extent the stick? Made a big difference in my flying.
Panzerlang Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 Sahaj's 10-cm extension arrived today. I had to take a file to it to get the top to sit in properly, which also allowed me to give it a fixed offset. All done and it's pukka. The cockpit build is on hold, I was in a bad car wreck on thursday and my sternum is broken. Bad whiplash and clattered knees too. I got my presciption this morning and now high as a kite and pain free. Oh, glorious! Decent compo coming my way too. The car is written off, they had to cut me out. Blah blah.
Bando Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Holy hell Siggi. I hope you will recover soon. All the best wishes mate. Not the best way to start a new year. Good luck!!
Panzerlang Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 Thanks guys. The worst thing is I'd had the car only two months and it was one of those mythical "one little old lady owner from new" jobbies. Absolutely immaculate 13 year old Honda Civic with 38k miles for £950. Not a single spot of rust anywhere, a true bargain. But we'll end up with something better and still have money left over so I guess it could be a blessing. Kind of. I forsee a 780GTX in my future too.
Bando Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Glad you keep up the spirit. Speedy recovery and keep smiling...
LLv34_Flanker Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 S! Nice work Siggi Now just get that thingy "flown in" properly :D
mudpuppy Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Very nice job, and hope this means your recovery from the car accident has gone well.
79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Cool! Now if only ambient outside temperature in my man-cave wasn't in the minus range...
Bando Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Oh!! Wow!!! You really made something beautiful. Congrats on that. Now go simming. Should be good with that. You recovered all right? Hope so... Thumbs up!!
The_Locksmith Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Maybe add some speakers for a nice effect. Looks pretty sweet. Makes me want to build one
Panzerlang Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 Cool! Now if only ambient outside temperature in my man-cave wasn't in the minus range... The ambient temp in my cockpit is the same as outside, 4 degrees. My den is in the coach-house. Thanks for the kind words guys. I flew for a couple of hours with the new setup last night. It's a very novel experience but so much better than the old desk-top setup. I'm going to have to get hold of an old rubber gear-stick gaitor for the joystick though, the force is far too weak for my taste. I have surround speakers already and the position is pretty good. I did consider mounting the rears to the seat, if only to tidy up the wires behind me, but the positional downside would negate any wire-tidyness benefit. The sternum is coming along, so long as I don't cough. Coughing is like being hit in the chest with a sharp pickaxe. Or a .50 cal from a marauding Mustang.
Panzerlang Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 Crashed car: And the replacement: 2004 with 35k miles. :D
DD_bongodriver Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 (edited) Wicked......needs LED lighting under the sills and a bigger body kit though. Edited January 12, 2014 by DD_bongodriver
Bando Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 10 years old car with 35K? Old lady car? Looks good. Good luck with it. Keep it in one piece as long as possible.

That is what I did, filed a notch out at 0 degrees and 15 degrees so I can centre mount or side mount, works great.
Aracno Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Inspired by Siggy work i did something i was dreaming for a long time.. It's modular, so i can move it when needed. Next work will be the seat .... 1 1
Aracno Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 No Steampunk keyboard? It's really nice, but well over my ability .....
79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Inspired by Siggy work i did something i was dreaming for a long time.. It's modular, so i can move it when needed. Neat system! A modular cockpit would be the only thing I'd be able to make/afford/have room for.
Aracno Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) Neat system! A modular cockpit would be the only thing I'd be able to make/afford/have room for. And was also the only thing acceptable by my wife ........ Edited January 22, 2014 by Aracno 1
Bando Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Very indeed. Congrats on a great project. Looks good!!
Jaegermeister Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Nice cockpits... makes me want to upgrade my old and worn out one.

Wow.. that sucks.. glad you are ok.. was your sternum actually broken or just cracked.. man .. that must have been some impact.
Panzerlang Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 Thanks Bearcat. Yes, it was snapped horizontally quite high up. The combined impact speed was around 60mph.
