ATA_Vasilij Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 If someone requires Ju52 seaplane, than I am requesting Snow skies for IL-2. I remember plastic model with such skies and would be awesome to have that option in our simulator. What do you think? and other planes too.... they are so sexy.. 3
-TBC-AeroAce Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Would be cool. It it for a il2 version we have?
Tacticalalan Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Skis and planes, two best things in the world together, damn 1
Finkeren Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 In combination with the snow covered slopes of the Caucasian mountains, there would be endless fun to be had. 1 1
wellenbrecher Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 How... how does one brake in one of these? I'm getting horrible flashbacks to desperately trying to stop before hitting those trees after emergency landings in RoF.

These were mostly used on frozen lakes, which were made into makeshift airfields, meaning that even if you didn't mange to stop in time, you'd normally just meet a shallow upward slope at the end of the "runway", not a line of trees.

I am definitely of the "anything but wheels" school of aviation... including wheels-up-landings because I forget to deploy the undercarriage. Take a look at all the beautiful examples in this link (floats and skis alike)... http://www.vintagewings.ca/VintageNews/Stories/tabid/116/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/494/Anything-But-Wheels.aspx 35 minutes ago, wellenbrecher said: How... how does one brake in one of these? The same as the tail-draggers in RoF... you pull back on the stick to press the tail into the ground (or snow). You push the stick forward to lift the tail (or at least lighten the load on it) which reduces ground friction (and also gives you more rudder authority). The ones that really scare me are the aircraft on ice-skates (e.g. He 115 B-2).
