Official Servers-Normal

I am getting really sick of the official normal server crashing all the time and not coming back for days. MP is a big part of the game for me. I may be a bit sad but I look forward to my night with the game all day, get in front of the PC, log in and ow it is down.

I know that even though it says it is an official server it was past on to some third party. But they never respond to it going down.

I think for this game to become truly successful when it comes to MP we need some actual official servers (at least one hardcore and one normal) that are maintained correctly and have proper code in place that will reset them if they fail, giving the player base a backup.

Now don't get me wrong I know there are many good third party hardcore servers and coconuts normal is also very good. But apart from that for normal we have the "official one" that goes down all the god darn time. New players will gravitate to normal on MP and if it is down all the time they will get put off.

1C please sort this out.

PS I don't want any well just go hardcore, it is better, more realistic.........comments. I fly both but I like normal for my own reasons.

I didn't even know that there was an official server ? There is a lot of choice out there, and there will be more MP options available with the new MP co-op facility. Dev's know that the Dserver could use some love, but they have like one uber programmer, who is spread pretty thin across features for the whole game. Jason is waiting  for human cloning to be legalised so he can have an army of programmers that can hit the ground running :)

IIRC it was talked about on the last AMA that Jason did on TS, If I understood correctly, they know it needs work, but it's all about time and resource, and finding a bit of both to fit it in. Be patient, they'll get to it as soon as they can, which may not be as soon as some of us would like, but if the last few years have taught us anything, it's that the team can push the game forwards.

They are doing the best they can with the resources they have.

You know I don't think anyone is doing a server like the official one right now. It's using Normal settings, a combination of air start and ground start with pre-warmed up engines, and a mix of targets and situations. The scenarios are simple, small scale, but also very accessible and ideal for folks who want to have a quick mission or are just getting into the sim and want something that's fairly quick to action and more accessible than some of the higher difficulty scenarios.

I realize this isn't for some folks and some will even suggest that people should just jump into the harder stuff but IMHO that's wrong and a server like this serves a great deal of people.

I hadn't been home long enough to even fly MP for days and days but I'm sorry to hear that the server has been down so much. I do like playing there as much as I enjoy the more difficult ones too (for different reasons).

At the start there was "Official Normal and Hardcore BY DED" they then got handed to third parties. Becoming WOL and DED Normal.

Not sure what happened but the devs said they were not supporting MP servers.

This is a problem IMO! There needs to be stable official, bug free, basic servers(both hardcore and normal)!!!!!!

For the MP sceen, there needs to be so stable servers and DED on the normal side is really bad. Harcore are more lucky that WOL is more stable because more care is put there.

I have to agree with AeroAce here.

I'm hoping the issues recently are related to the server going through some changes and updates prior to official Kuban release...stats have been down for several weeks now. Some maps don't work, other will make the game crash. There is no response ever in the server thread or by PM from server admin.

Unfortunately, the server empties out quickly when people in European times zones aren't playing. In the evenings in the US...the server is typically empty. Would be nice to have more people in Western time zones supporting, but I guess that's another issue altogether.

I think it would be a good idea for the devs to maintain at least one server as it will give them a direct testbed for their server technology to use with actual players. There may be specific configurations that may run better than others. This would give them real world experience. IMHO.

The online servers are, from what I read and experienced, still a major issue (of which there have been many that the team has tackled already so I'm very forgiving and patient on this issue) that the series needs to deal with eventually.

I fly DED Normal a lot, because it’s quick action and I, unfortunately, seldom have time to sink many hours at a time into BoX.

It’s a bit annoying for me as well.

Agree that the DED Normal/ex official needs some love

for many it may be their first tentative dip into MP

hopefully after patch some thought can be given

Probably the best server to get started playing MP for new peeps.

Easy / normal controls, tags on, quick fast action, ready to go...

Some of the regulars are very good so don't think it's a noob server, you may be in for a surprise and quickly brought down to earth !

I'm waiting for the update before jumping back in.

Have fun.

For the starting VVS players it's a crap server setup. Every single blue is at 5k. VVS is at the bottom. They see each other. A "non-stop b'n'z by the blue" is more of an appropriate name for this server, or "wanna be blue? Come to normal Ded to learn bnz and kill all the noobs on easy mode". For inexperienced VVS players it's a crapshoot as there's no chance for an attack but only defensive actions.

Once I came across a different normal server but I forgot which one it was. It had similar setup as Normal Ded but it had a ton of AI planes. I'm talking about for every human player there were 4 ai's. Now that's more like it. The noobs can shoot up AI and the blue buzzers can stay on their own diet.

I prefer the challenge of human adversaires, therefore willing to go down fighting in true spirit.

Not much sense in fighting against bots, best go on that dogfight server if you need to manup , can't dogfight for the life of me but there is fun to be had.

That's my opinion anyhow.

Uh, no.  This is patently false.

There are dozens of VVS players on DED Normal who can prove this is not the case. They are the ones who fight to the strengths of their AC and don't just drive straight to the furball for a one and done. There are good pilots on both sides, though, the Luftwaffe does have the better AC at the moment. The field will be pretty level with the arrival of the -5FN BTW. Fights are largely won by teamwork for either side. The Reds win maps nearly as often as the Lufties by using better teamwork and taking care of objectives. The lufties are often only concerned with individual kills and that costs them maps rather frequently. Don't want to get bounced? Don't leave from the forward airbase and drive straight to the front lines at 1500m. Use a rear base and come in at 4000m. You will likely control your own destiny that way. Coconut's Normal server is about 1500m higher than the stated alt's for DED.

Normal is no longer a "noob" server. There are dozens of really excellent pilots on both sides and some who have good success rates on Expert servers visiting fairly often as well. The good pilots often have prolonged fights and many end up in a draw. Know your AC, know your enemy, know when to cut and run. Lastly, fly with a wingman, use comms, check six. Outside of bounces, good tactics are the same for all servers.

uh.. didn't we talk about noobs here. ?  My whole point is about the vvs first time players going to this server expecting a noob friendly experience. And you come by and  throw all this veteran logic at me. :D .  For noobs the Normal = noob. Whereas in reality this server is far worse than the non-iconed one.

And who do you think make this server a non-noob? You. The 'veterans'. You have the experience in energy retention and ability to see your opponent at any time, which you don't have playing on "hard". So technically all veterans playing on normal servers against noobs are douchebags in my opinion.

Bwahahahaha. Or.............

Older, less time to commit, not as good of eyesight, or, or, or

You make far too many generalizations. You think putting a noob into an expert server is better where they will rarely face another noob? Not a chance. It's expert for a reason.

BTW, I just provided most of the advice a "noob" needs to survive his first few missions on the Normal server in the first response above.

There's always one ;)

The Normal server isn't explicitly for new players but it is a good place to start for many with some more relaxed settings and the potential for fairly fast action. It's fast, it can be fun, and it trains you quickly. If you get shot down it isn't that big of a deal because you can be back into the fight quickly.

Being a veteran and playing there doesn't make you a bad person either AND I see plenty of veteran players trying to help out the newer players when they can too.

Hell, I help out new guys I shoot down most of the time. Let em know how to avoid the same situation and be more aware on the next hop.
