dburne Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 I was having a look in the Nvidia Control Panel, and see a setting I have not been familiar with. Normally I create profiles in Nvidia Inspector and don't get into the Nvidia control panel all that much. I see a setting for " Preferred Refresh Rate", it is set to application controlled be default. The other selection available, is " Highest Available". Beside the " Preferred Refresh Rate" title in parenthesis, is " Ancor Communications"... strange. Anyone use this?
dburne Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2964 That's 'why' you see Ancor ... As it's specific to your monitor and yours has an extra high refresh rate I'd apply the Ancor setting to see if it gave you anything extra. Also, (on a seperate note) have you heard about G-Synch? Yours is currently the only monitor that supports it with an after market modification. http://www.anandtech.com/show/7436/nvidias-gsync-attempting-to-revolutionize-gaming-via-smoothness Thanks for the info, I will have to give it a try and see if there is any difference. Yes, I heard about G-Synch shortly after ordering the monitor, sounds like it will be pretty cool to have - I will be keeping an eye on it and may give it a shot after it has been out for a bit. Thanks,
dburne Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 Ok so I went in and played around with this setting this morning, setting it to " Highest Available". I really did not see any difference in the game. When I looked at this setting in Nvidia Inspector, the highest available selection states it is to override the application setting. I am going to assume here, that this is for probably running games that do not natively support the higher resolutions like 120 and 144, and this forces it to run at the higher refresh rate. BOS obviously supports these higher refresh rates natively, so I suspect this override setting is not needed for BOS.
dburne Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 So BOS does natively support 144? Or do you have to use 120? (My poor old monitor only hours up to 60) Incidentally I was looking at monitors just to keep informed and I saw a competition to win the Asus VG248QE so fingers crossed! As far as I know it does, my monitor is set to 144hz refresh and BOS looks really good on it. Good luck on the competition! 1
