However, I suspect, IT knew bout the cert expiration, requested to purchase a new cert and it was delayed in procurement until the last moment. or IT screwed up. it's 50/50 with these things. it's still amusing that shit like this can happen even at Facebook. Ha.

It's stupid that you need internet connection at first place to use HARWARE that you paid! I've read Vive doesn't need internet connection to use it's gear so i guess i'll switch to Vive on first occasion. Oculus never again!
WithStrangeAeons Posted March 7, 2018 Posted March 7, 2018 There's a thread in the VR hardware section going over what this error is and updates on it: It's more of a software security issue; this would happen with or without an internet connection, as it's about Windows saying that this software is the software Oculus says it is, and wasn't set to renew properly.

That is a whole other level of insane but I have always despised what Oculus are trying to do to VR, and the way in which they try to treat VR headsets as if they are actually consoles, when in fact it is no more than a screen! It doesn't really affect people with rifts as they still reap the benefits of the open market while also able to play games that people like me are not able to! Now if only the Vive wasn't attached to HTC! But despite their customer service at least the VIVE software and base-station's will be compatible with the next headset you buy! Just try to make sure you buy from an actual shop rather than online! I sincerely hope Pimax or some other Chinese company will come along and blow them both out of the market! VR market needs more and more decent headsets to obliterate the walled up garden approach that Oculus is attempting. 1

I research it a bit closer and i think it would, it's dll files are coded with cert dates which will stop work as soon your pc OS time and date surpasses it no matter of internet connection status. Anyway now when there is no more danger of ppl spending their precious Gb and since they solve the problem maybe it's time to mods move this thread, if they want :).
