A Vertical Trick with Emergency Power

Fighting this Spitfire was tough in the beginning - he'd boom&zoom, and I couldn't follow.

But then I tricked him in a risky move, and used the full emergency power...

Nice video....though I could probably show you lots of videos of 109s dying trying that     In fact,  I would estimate 90% of my 109 & 190 kills have happened as they tried that!    Yes you will always be able to climb higher vertically but as you climb you provide a lovely slow moving plan-form target climbing past the nose of anyone not right on your tail and anyone that *is* right on your tail will have you slow and very close for several seconds before they stall so can probably kill you before the stall.

The best time to use your vertical climb trick is after he has followed you down in a dive at extreme range because then when you pull up he is too fast to pull up and shoot you in plan-form as you climb past his nose and, hopefully, when he pulls up on your 6 he is still far enough back that he cannot hit you easily before he stalls.   Then you reverse and dive down after him as you did :-)

One thing I don't understand why your opponent did not go into vertical again after your first burst missed him. (AI?) In his place I would have stallen the Spit into a Split S to make you either overshoot or to stall with him. Anything he could do would be better than continuing that right turn with an enemy at his six.

Nice work, a Spitfire is a very dangerous opponent in a 109 if caught like that so turing the tables is difficult, Especially in my opinion in a G model 109.

I think that the Roblex has a good point. I just want to add as this is an advanced sim, piloting technique do matter and to be in the better turning aircraft is not enough to outurn an opponent.

Obviously you were the better pilot in this dogfight that is why you won. Or the spit pilot had a very, very bad day

But bear in mind that if you do the exact same thing in the exact same situation  against a Spit pilot that knows his business you are dead. As he had an initial energy advantage over you.

That was exactly what put him on the offside - I did not simply pull up, with him behind me.

I let him overshoot, and and he was quite a bit away from my craft and did not climb right behind me.

If he had made a good turn instead to come back at me, I would not have tried that vertical "competition".

My own comment was not supposed to imply you were just lucky to have an unskilled Spitfire pilot.  I was just pointing out that *other people* should not think it is as easy as having a plane that can out climb your enemys plane.    What you did was add a turn to your climb that made it harder for him to follow you up because you made his angle tighter. The result of that was that when he stalled he was not behind you and you were not in his sights.  I especially liked that roll off the top to place your nose on him as he floundered with no E :-)

That's true. Especially against experienced players, that could be the last seconds of your life, when you get it wrong - or he get's it right!

Exactly. But to say I had planned all this would be bragging - I did the right thing this time - and fail to do so many other times.

Thank you - yeah, that moment came out just like I had hoped it would.

Awfully slow-motion, at the top point of a vertical stall.

I wanted to show you some points with which you can advance. But as you still think that you made it because of awesome choice making I am done with participating in this discussion.
