Skoshi_Tiger Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) Nice historical footage but not all may be as it seems. The spitfire seen at 2.29 seems to be marked G-X If so it's one that was captured and used for filming propaganda films for the Nazi regime. From a quick search on the net it think it was based with FJugzeugftihrerschule FFS6 at Kolberg. It might explain the calm demeanor of the cameraman who supposedly is getting 8 browning machine guns fired at him from close range! (I??? Edited December 29, 2012 by Skoshi_Tiger
JG4_Sputnik Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Thanks for the post! Interesting footage indertd. Though I also think the battles are made up because of the almost too good camera angles. But its always great to see "new" footage when you think you had seen it all by now
VaeTibi Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 That "Red Tails" movie stuff is supposed to be reference for what? Space invaders? 1
Freycinet Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 It is footage from a German news reel and yes, the combat with the Spitfire was staged. Saw the footage quite a few times, most often with excited German commentary, as far as I remember. Lovely clips of the Stukas etc.
=BKHZ=Furbs Posted December 29, 2012 Author Posted December 29, 2012 As much as we can all see the spit attack is faked, its interesting to see the view from the gunners spot as hes coming in, wouldnt of fancied being in his boots for real.
Bearcat Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 thats a brunette here a blonde though 2:14 makes me think shes dyed: That movie was soooo bad. I knew from the moment I heard the music and saw the opening credits that it was going to blow big time..It was great seeing all those CGI Redtailed Mustangs .. and the sets and all .. but the film was terrible. The script was so bad as to be almost a joke. The sets were good.. the costumes were so so.. No one back then had leather unit patches.. but the markisg were accurate and I could see from what I know that the they took a few real life exploits and tied them together but overall the film was just bad.
Freycinet Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I know you must have been gutted about that movie, Bearcat... :-( The real Red Tails deserved better!
Rjel Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Imagine tying the quality of the CGI in Red Tails with well made movie like Twelve O'clock High. I did enjoy Red Tails more than I expected to. It was entertaining if nothing else.

Well, the US markings may have been accurate, but the German ones were atrocious.
Bearcat Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 I know you must have been gutted about that movie, Bearcat... :-( The real Red Tails deserved better! Just disappointed.. It could have been so much better. It should have been. Imagine tying the quality of the CGI in Red Tails with well made movie like Twelve O'clock High. I did enjoy Red Tails more than I expected to. It was entertaining if nothing else. I'd love to see a movie about the 241th.. and the Tigers.. and a new 12 O'CVlock High would be great but it seems that Hollywood has lost art of making really good acviation movies.. it's like they toss it up to the CGI and don't even try to come up with a good script.. Look at Flyboys .. The visuals are good enough in all of them.. but substance and visuals is better. Well, the US markings may have been accurate, but the German ones were atrocious. The 332nd markings were accurate.. some of the bomber markings were wrong as well... and when i saw the antagonist .. with his scar .. I was just done.. In that scene where he crashed and they buzzed the base I was almost expecting him to pull a monacle out of his pocket.. and that destroyer scene was just... too much.. IN reality they sank the destroyer with P-47s.. not P-51s.. and according to the son of one of the guys involved his dad told him it was basically a lucky shot.. someone left a hatch open and as he was strafing the ship tracers went in the hatch and the next thing he knew he ship started exploding..
Feathered_IV Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Yeah I was pretty horrified by Red Tails too. There was one early scene where a new pilot shows up. I'd love to have had the the film show the unit through his eyes. Introduce the pilots and the realities of combat that way. Let this character and the audience see the men work for their successes and overcome their challenges. Not wisecrack their way through, drawing effortlessly on a wellspring of awesomeness. Shame on you George Lucas.
vistvan83 Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Never seen this before... This is truly awesome! Thank you very much for sharting this!! Awesome tha 109 and DAT sound!!
voncrapenhauser Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Yup. Lots of captured footage about. As for red tails...was an entertaining if not the best new war movie iv'e seen. However in its defence Lucas did say he made it to emulate a 1950;s war movie....if so?,he achived that. Bad script some dodgey dialoge....reminded me of Dam busters,an iconic but flawed movie too,but a movie of its time,as with others i could mention....633 squadron anyone? Possibly my all time worst movie...Pearl harbour. An incredibly DUMB movie both inacurate in places and THE worst scripted movie ever. Tora Tora Tora craps all over it from 2500ft and that was semi documetary type movie. Anyways Red tails did what it was suposed to do1st and foremostly, Entertain.Goodenough. :D Btw anyone see the TV movie a few years back,The Tuskegee airmen? about the earier days of the Red tails,That was ok.
VaeTibi Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 True it is a shame, that with all that is known now a days, and with CGI it seems next to impossible to deliver a decent WWII based movie. Tora, Tora, Tora, although so old is still one of the best around, although as a runner up, I would say the movie John Rabe is a good choice, although on youtube, a lot of Japanese revisionists have been yelling the movie is fake and false...... https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Wt9-ME6mQqI
Erik Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 thats a brunette here a blonde though 2:14 makes me think shes dyed: Yes, also saw the film. I think the film was entertainment but I like it. It was not a very good story, but is was not bad. But you can give it a try to watch it!
