Frequent_Flyer Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Hello All, Is it possible to "request" to be vectored back to base ? The original IL-2 1946 you could request the coordinates. I know there is no radio comm request to ask for help in Il--2 Battle of Stalingrad but is there another way? Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
TP_Silk Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 The nearest we have is the NDB that can be set up to be read by those aircraft that can equip it. Even then it needs to be included and configured by a mission designer and not all aircraft can equip the receiver.
SCG_ItsDrifter Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 Sorry man, i cant help you with your question, but your profile pic caught my eye, I see you got a great taste in hockey teams! Go hawks!

Go hawks! Are you a Chicago transplant in Florida or a lucky retiree ? The Haws are having a down year this year, hopefully the Cubs pick up the slack.
SCG_ItsDrifter Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 My whole family is from Chicago, and moved down to Florida. I'm there young edition to the family (16 years of age) But yea, they have been down lately, Not having Crawford is killing us, and defense is horrible

SCG_ItsDrifter Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Awww, never heard of that, if thats so, i hope we can find a better goalie, what a shame. Glass is decent right now, and has potential.
-TBC-AeroAce Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 It would be a very strong tool if we had a way of pulling certain in game values such as heading, speed, altitude. .... and then being able to use that number in a script for output or some kinda trigger. For example to solve the ops problem: if you knew the speed and position of your plane and compared that to the position of the field you could get the game to out put a vector as a msg on screen. If not saying we should be given access to all the game variables just basic ones like alt, speed, heading, lat and long. Combine that with a very simple operations block system with basic maths and logic function. (Would need trig function) And use above to trigger what ever
Sokol1 Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 (edited) Too complicated this script trigger thing, just add a "radio" command "Vector to home base", like have in CloD, DCSW... not sure if this is appropriated to Eastern front, because without radar coverage the controller can't know your actual position for calculate the return heading (done automatically in mentioned games by virtual controllers). But maybe a kind of radial like the YE-ZB 'Hayrake' used in IL-2:46 (TD) is applicable. http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Knowledge_Base&op=show&kid=627 https://youtu.be/qVOaLweCHx8?t=266 In Norbert Hannig book - liked in this forum, he relate that together with some squadron mates lost their FW 190's because became lost due lack of training/skill for long range navigation in Eastern Front, landing somewhere short in fuel, had to destroy their planes and join German retreating ground forces. BMA_FlyingShark Posted February 26, 2018 Posted February 26, 2018 But maybe a kind of radial like the YE-ZB 'Hayrake' used in IL-2:46 (TD) is applicable. Been hoping for this since day one here. Have a nice day.

Luftwaffe used direction-finder units manned by the communications branch ("Luftnachrichtentruppe") for this. No need for radar coverage here. Usually the bomber-units had one unit placed at their airfield running the NDB, too. Others were placed on larger airfields important for that sector / region. Using procedures comparable to Aeronautical Code Signals the radio operator in the plane contacted a direction finding site operating adcock- or loop-antenna and asked for the bearing. Problem most often was to get contact to that site because of limited range, atmospheric noise, technical problems, insufficient training etc. Having two direction-finder sites in range often allowed a nice cross-bearing. Would be a dream come true to find that kind of early radio navigation procedures in IL2-BoX ... 1
