Spitfire Engine Limits. A logical Code Error?

Recommended Posts

Ok so the Spit Engine Combat limit (or any other limit for the spit engines) says 2850 at 9lb boost but if you put it on 9lb it goes into "boosted" mode instead of combat mode. So basically the game is seeing the limit as over the limit meaning that for combat you need to be at 8lb instead of the 9lb limit.

This seems like a little mistake in the way the limit number has been coded/interpreted. Surely if the combat mode limit is 9lb you should be able to put it at 9lb without it going into the next mode, not 8.999 as I reckon it has been coded.

Basically, I think the limit is currently coded as: if boost equal or greater than 9lb then we are in boosted mode when it should be: if greater than 9lb we are in boosted mode.

Not sure if this applies to other aircraft engine limits. It is an easy coding mistake to make.

EDIT: Side note I looked at it a bit closer and it might possibly be parallax error but im not sure because it still seems like the gauges are sitting just below the limit threshold and not on it even when I possition my head right infront of them ??????

I agree that the limits from the manuals should be read as "upto and including Xlbs" and not as "less than Xlbs": in fact, they are recommended settings.    I am just not sure if it possible to read the gauges that accurately - I always leave a clearly visible gap below any limits for that reason since I do not have tech tips on.

Iv tested a bit more and on the spit at least it is always below the limit and not on it (as far as I can put my head directly infront of it). I tested for parallax by resetting the view directly in front of the gauge it defo seems under and not on the value.

If you are sure put in a bug report.

ignore the techno chat. I think there is a disparity between the two. I fly with technochat and hints off, so always use the specified engine settings, and the spit is fine at 2850 rpm and + 9 boost

Yep that is my experience as well. Flying the crap out of it in PWCG.

but isnt the limit variable according the day atmospheric temperature?

shouldnt be too dificult to code otherwise would be repetitive and boring

no if the pressure is the pressure that is the pressure

Ok guys just because on Hardcore it works does not mean that the Techno chat is correct. If Tech chat is wrong the game is wrong!!!

I think the point we were trying to make is that techno chat, in this instance is incorrect. This does not make the game wrong.

When you pick an aircraft to fly AeroAce press "O" to open up the big map. On the right hand side you will see the mission briefing.  Select the specification tab, and scroll down until you see the engine management settings.

for the spit vb from memory you will see something like :-

max continuous      2600rpm  +9 boost  unlimited

combat                   2850 rpm +9 boost  30 minutes

WEP                       3000 rpm +12 boost 5 minutes

max WEP               3000 rpm + 16 boost 3 minutes

Spit only has a single stage supercharger but for other particularly allied aircraft you might want to make a note of the correct supercharger change altitude which should be just underneath these settings too.

You quickly get used to to glancing at your instruments. Our cockpits tell us all we need to know to manage our aircraft, and I encourage you to practice this, even if you like techno chat on.

Spitfire MKV got combat rating not 30 minutes  like we have in game but rather 1 hour limit

From Spitfire MKV manual:

Yes I understand you are saying it is the tech chat that is wrong. I'm saying fix it.
