NETSCAPE Posted February 16, 2018 Posted February 16, 2018 (edited) Suggestion: Please consider adding the StuG III G to the Clash at Prokhorovka expansion. The StuG played a vital role in the war, far greater than the Elefant. I don't know the amount of German AFV's that were committed to the battle Prokhorovka. Wikipedia says about 290 tanks and assault guns (and by assault guns, we can assume StuG's, hehe). But I did come up with some rough numbers that made up the divisions and attached battalions involved in the area... I didn't include half-tracks or self-propelled artillery such as the wespe, hummel ect: II SS Panzer Corps under the command of SS Obergruppenfuehrer Paul Hausser: LAH SS Panzergrenadier Div (1.SS) Pz. Royal_Flight Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 I'm totally on board with the idea of recon and arty/air spotting from an armoured car of some sort. It would add a lot to have a Sd.Kfz 251 or 222 (and Soviet equivalent, the BA-64?) with a commander in the turret with binoculars, watching out for enemy movement and alerting friendly forces via teamspeak (assuming anyone can be arsed to get on the same server) or through chat. There is already AI artillery that can be placed at various points around the map, it could also be cool if a designated unit could call down or spot for AI artillery fires at a given point on the map (not as a power-up on a cooldown timer like on WT), or maybe fire flares or coloured smoke to direct friendly air support. Regarding StuGs, sure. Although I quite like the look of the Elefant so I'd rather not replace that one. I think there could be space for something like the German Puma as well and any Soviet equivalent, a wheeled heavy armoured car with a heavier cannon on it. Infantry needs to be included somehow, but a variety of different-sized vehicles would make for a more varied tactical setting than just tanks slugging it out over open fields. 1
NETSCAPE Posted February 17, 2018 Author Posted February 17, 2018 Yeah I'm really assuming it will just be armor vs. armor and some planes in the air (since we will have controllable flak it looks like). The Elephant is a beast, no doubt. But there were not that many produced, at least relative to StuG's or any of the other AFV's on the tentative list. I want to clarify to anyone reading this - I am not implying I want some Ro2 FPS. The infantry I'd like in a tank sim would be strictly AI. At minimum they could just add static infantry, foxholes, trenches, bunkers ect.
Royal_Flight Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Controllable flak will be good. But there really needs to be some variety in the types of vehicles, and the roles they can fill. The 'infantry question' is a difficult one, but just having ambient AI infantry that occupy bunkers and trenches etc as you suggest would be enough. Provided they could be armed and would interact with the world (shooting at each other and other tanks and vehicles and moving forwards or backwards to objectives). This doesn't need to be like ARMA, but it needs something going on as WWII was still predominantly an infantry war. If this just ends up being Tigers and T-34-85s in a sterile environment with nothing happening and no context then it will be rubbish. 1
