Meanwhile, the BoX mission editor, even if powerful, needs a 340 page manual and can't even be launched from the game.

Yeah, but what's so important about having a user friendly, fun to use, in-game mission editor... like the kind that have been around for years in all kinds of flightsims?

That's so yesterday.

Again. The BoX ME is fine as it is. Personally, I preferred the CloD one. I respect that others may have other preferences. I have 0 expectations that we will ever get the CloD level of functionality in BoX and I'm fine with that. Someone asked my opinion on the subject and I gave it. Your sarcasm towards my opinion only reflects poorly on you, and adds nothing to the conversation.

For a guy that knows that C Sharp is a key on a piano, the current Mission Editor is a bewildering, non-intuitive monster that is effectively useless to the majority of players.  The fact that some can create excellent missions with it in no way makes it a usable tool for most players.

Everyone wants more user made mission content, well, give us an intuitive, easy to use mission builder, not just a re-named developer's map making tool that was never intended for the player base to have in the first place.

If that were to happen you would see an explosion of new missions being made for both single player and multiplayer, and not just the current 3 or 4 really good mission makers that the sim has now.

Il2 just needs 2 more programmers for all the things they want to do and have on their list but no time available

Personally I'd think it would be a worthwile investment after a fairly short time..

Illumination, my son.

You don't get sunshine in TO again until the Maple Griefs win the cup.

Amen!

An anorexic QMB is one thing, a Rube Goldberg-esque FMB is another... but both together in the same sim?

C'mon, throw the SP guys a bone, please. We the great unwashed want to have some mission design input.

And still no date set for the release of the big new patch or of the Kuban game? Is there one? Am I mistaken?! :salute:

Yeah, this is one of the pillars of the "Spirit of '46" that has been talked about.

'46 has a staggering variety of user-created missions that I've hardly scratched the surface of.

BoX is still lacking that explosion of new missions that would go a long way towards broadening the audience and increasing the appeal.

Someone must have made, and is continuing to make, the decision to have a brutal FMB and a weak QMB based on economics. I guess they must don't see SP mission design input as being necessary for sales/profit.

I find that curious, but then I don't make flightsims, so maybe there is some (unfortunate) logic to it.

I'm a .net programmer. I wouldnt mind some contract work.

I've got $20 for a QMB with some real meat on its bones.

You build it and I'll buy it.

Absolutely, we live in hope.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

That's a bit of a cheap shot. How many pages is a typical "Teach Yourself C#" book?

It's a gigantic, disingenuous cheap shot.

It's a double-edged sword.

You'd see an explosion of poor to mediocre content that you'd have to wade through as well.

The editor is not that hard to learn - it simply requires a bit of discipline at first, but the learning curve flattens out fast.

That more people don't learn it isn't a commentary on the editor as much as it is the willingness of the users themselves to buckle down for a week or two after work and get over the hump.

I was pasting groups from other users and making missions weeks before I completely understood all of the logic.
