Can someone remind me what the protuberance near the right wing root is for??

I know it's been explained before but I can't find any answers.

IL 2 is mostly my trade in this sim, so I am grateful for the 4K skins. Well done and thank you :)

Its a dust filter for the engine AFAIK.

Yes we only have default 4K for a couple planes, but you can always choose a custom 4K skin before take-off.

well thats not so good... since you cant use/see custom skins online. unless all have them installed

Give it time. 3.001 will introduce 4K official skins for 2 aircraft, where we used to have none. That’s great.

Noone is saying more won’t be added along the way. Especially if members of the community keep contributing.

Ya like every other major flight-sim since the original IL-2 helped pioneer this feature 17 years ago. Such a burn. I'm sick of your nonsense since I denied your beta access request. Get off your agenda or be banned. Play nice or don't come here.

the only drawback of that method is that I can't preview it, so many times I don't know which one I am picking, are you going to improve that in the future? I would love to have that kind of feature like the old IL2, please

Now that I've finished work for today I've had a chance to go through the pictures in more detail. I have to say that is truly great work. Especially the 3d of all the panels, hatches, hinges and such. I really hope you can tackle more planes in this style.

Excellent art work on the IL_2 Neeraj , the replication of the various materials used for the aircraft construction is really something to behold as is the other detail treatment of panels and such, thank you very much, really appreciated.

I have always disliked the overall gloss look of skins in game so it is great to see work such as this and from the other artists giving the aircraft a more realistic finish, great work from all those guys as well as Neeraj who we so often forget to thank for their work, hats off to you all. :salute:

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

haha funny...

In the old il2 1946 you had an option to enable skin download and all wich enabled that coukd see the custom skins. it has nothing to do with tjat freaking beta access lol. its just stuff wich the old il2 had and the new one not. but thats to much.

No, I think this is a fine example of a candor developer who communicates to community with passion.

I like 1C team and its leadership. I have not seen any other developer who is as dedicated and transparent with its community.

The above-rejected beta tester has clear and sour agenda like that from a rejected prom date. He deserves a good 5 year ban from forum to clear his head.

You can use the skins just fine, it’s just that other people can’t see them.

There is nothing 'clear' about any sort of 'sour agenda' in MrFries' post. What *is* clear though is Williams' rude, beside-the-point-reply to a very pertinent comment about not being able to see custom skins online.

Also, since you've brought up excessiveness, how about *your* suggestion that MrFries should be banned (for 5 years no less!) for a post that contains no profanity or inflammatory language. Are you for real?

I agree with you about developer dedication, but I can't about marines-like, crude language he systematically uses.

Talk to the server admins, then. The game already lets you have custom skins, in MP it’s up to the server admins to decide if they’ll let you use them.

and everybody can see them online

Who cares if other people can see them online? If you want your virtual squadron to look pretty, give everyone the download link to the skin. Otherwise, there’s not much point - the person who most enjoys the custom skin you’re using will always be yourself.

But that defeats the purpose Cybermat. Its exactly the point of having those skins and so I do care about it. Seeing skin for myself is not really what I care. I dont use skins to take nice pictures and post them on forums, facebook or instagram. But if I fly with 3 other guys we want to have the same skin that everyone of us can see on another, and it would be best if we had different markings so anyone knows who is who. It helps a lot in keeping formation and knowing who the guy on the left and right is. Since there are no means of adding any decals or layers on top of skins in game, that would be the only way to have custom squadron skins with unique tail numbers.

But then again, its only a small thing I'd like. Considering how guys are occupied with more important tasks I can see why its not something that will become a priority.

I thought most people are quite happy not being forced to play online with a bunch of WW2 planes covered in anime paintjobs?

This isn't about custom skins at all...if it wasn't this topic he would choose something else to make a snotty comment about.

MrFies has been trolling the devs for far longer than the 2 months that you've been on this forum. Watch what he posts over the next couple of months and you will understand. If his forum privileges survive that long.

True. Jason isn't the only one that is sick of Fries' BS.

Part of the issue for some is they're are posting in an English language forum. The poster in question is either not a native speaker of English or doesn't write well. I think some of his posts don't come across well. The bitterness on the other hand shines through pretty clearly.

I do hope for a custom skin set up like was possible in the original IL2 someday also.

Thanks Neeraj and all other skin template authors!

Also i hope 3.001 release date won't be revealed and devs suprise us with update.

Knowing exact release date turn days into months, it slows down time!

Its likely the special skin for pre-ordering BoK. If you remember the BoS pre-order skins they were not historical but very good looking.

It is not some special preorder skin. (in fact, it is already in the game)

That plane was used by Hero of the Soviet Union Nelson Gevorkovich Sepanyan during his time as an instructor at the Baltic Fleet pilot school.

You can find out more about this plane here: http://massimotessitori.altervista.org/sovietwarplanes/pages/il-2/il2-camo/il-2m/stepanyan/stepanyan.html

For those saying that you cannot see custom skins online are not accurate. If you boh have the skins you will see them. Been this way from the beginning and like any othe IL-2 product. Do we automatically ship them around to all users, no. Our skins are much larger than original 1946 textures and adds unecessary packets to the flow. The server operator can decide to restrict skins if they wish. Don’t spread lies about our product.

Lovely work.  Thank you.  I especially like the musical skin being that of a musician myself.:yahoo:

As for differentiating a flight with skins, maybe generic skin but a system whereby different lettering can be applied to the skin so that a flight can know the different pilots that comprise such.  This would be as a layer ontop of the skin so to speak.

I think the current skin system is just fine. Honestly i dont want to have to wait until i have downloaded, everybody who is on the server, custom 4k skin before i can join a game. I dont want a game to lag everytime a new player who joins the server and has to do the same thing. Its common knowledge to the vocal one here that a squad can see each others skins if they all have them on each others install. Anything else is just vanity, wanting the whole world to see ones custom skin. I dont want my hard drive full of 4k skins covered in anime schoolgirls.

Since you joined just a couple of months ago, you might not be aware that MrFies is a huge troll. It's not one post but a long history of trolling that got him that reaction.

First of all congratulate the artist who has made skin so beautiful and very well made. Congratulations!

Thank you BlackHellHound1

As for the custom Skin for squadrons: My squad has custom skins of each model of airplane that we usually fly. You just have to put the personal skin in the corresponding folder of each plane, and at the same time your colleagues also have to have it in their folders. So each of us sees the personal skin of each of the members of the squadron with its corresponding number, brand and personal drawing or pet. In other words, if there are 4 pilots in your squadron, for example, each one of them has to have all four skins in the corresponding plane's folder. So everything will see the skin of the friend.

Although I recognize that it would not be bad a system that only added the shield of the squadron (raising the image to a small size) and that could put a different number or a different color to the cone of the helix, as well as the graduation marks. But perhaps this is asking for much and something similar to the complex system of the GT Gran Turismo. But something much simpler can be done. This, I think, would prevent the load on the servers load all 4K skin custom.

But I think there are things with higher priority in the 777 and 1C projects

PD: By the way, if someone does not know this artist can see the large number of aircraft profiles even fantasy: http://www.clavework-graphics.co.uk/index.html

Everybody calm down.

Take a couple of breaths, smile and lets stick to the facts.

We have problems and we have solutions and also we could have yet to be solutions. (technical challenges / progress / evolution )

Problem#1 (for the unhappy guys picking on the devs)

People like to have their skin visible to others and vice versa online.

Is there a solution? yes ofc there is. You can download them on before hand outside of the game, in the sense that devs mentioned, heavier skins... more traffic..

This works perfectly, and actually I prefer this instead of the old method with this being downloaded by the game in the duration of playing... thats not very sensible.

Problem#2 (for the devs that obviously has not understood ppls point and why they are unhappy)

For each skin that needs to be predownloaded, it needs to be installed in the custom skin directory.

What you dear developers need to understand is the following:

With a skin that is Pilot_no.X_skin he also need to have all other skins that of his fellow pilots installed as well.... So for one plane with a squad of 10 ppl there will be 10 custom skins, of only pilot_no.X wants to select one of those. You can imagine and multiply with the number of skins and the number of pilots and quickly realize that this is driving ppl mad if they want to go full creative (like it was possible in the old days.)

In short, finding your 4 skins amongst 40 other skins is madness. (if you fly with 10 other ppl that have 4 custom skins)

Earlier, you could have a standard skin and use the decals.. (yes I know what you will go on about now kicking on a dead horse) but thats not my point. The point is, that with these fantastic 4k skins and that they are downloadble on beforehand, it becomes very nice to not need the "decals"... as whoever creates the skins for squads or groups usually is part of the group and take a great deal of pride and dedication to skin for his/her fellow comrades!!

Now, where am I getting at?

An idea of a solution ofc....

The current way of things allows us to almost get what we want, we are soo close.. but not there fully yet.

My idea is this...

Since every skin will be pre downloaded by the user anyway, you dont need to develop a fancy system for this.

Please consider a system where IL2BoX can differentiate between skins (thats already downloaded by the user) that are named with a symbol (I.e contains # in the skin name to automatically filter them out of the skin list.

This way, you dont see them in your list, and they are seen ingame = problem solved...everybody happy.)

Example:

Skin_X_bf109f4 (your skin)

Skin_Y#_bf109f4 (your mates skin)

both skins installed in same repository, but only Skin_X_bf109f4 is seen in the list and selectable as the one(s) with # is filtered out

You wont need to alter much at all, well not YOU at least, it will go to a coder who probably dont have too much of headache for such a solution.

Perhaps, later in the future, there could be a more GUI friendly solution where user can tick a button on each skin in the menu with a show/hide functionality for this purpose?

Lets look forward!

Customers, come with valid ideas!

Developers, listen to valid ideas.

In both cases, be polite.

Oh, almost forgot... Thank you Hellhound for the time you have invested into this!

You can create a thread and post your skin for others who want to download it, i personally don't!

Others can do the same, so after 40-50Gb of 4k skins you'll see many custom skins online.

I like the way the skin packs were organized. I don't know if it was done by the Devs or the Community they got 19 packs.

Jason, so if the server operator not block custom skins or I don't have the same skins what they use - I can expect squads with very high bright colored plane skins.................. :scratch_one-s_head:

The game will use the default skin if your install does not contain the custom one.
