=FEW=Hauggy Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 LoL ! Now that was funny! I played a flight sim offline once, back then I had no internet xD 2
CanadaOne Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 It's all about SP for me. I just want to sandbox fly. No muss, no fuss. Just flying for fun. When I fire up the sim I have no idea if I'll fly for ten-minutes or two-hours, depends how I feel once I'm in the virtual air. That said, I'd trade every scrap of the campaign and career mode for a big fat QMB with some real meat on its bones. For us SP flyers, BOX has some serious deficiencies as far as player design input goes. And if SP does contribute most of the money in the bank, I find that kind of curious. 2
Voidhunger Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 What I don't understand is why it seems that so much development time and resources are being put into single player campaign and missions. I know there's that old chestnut that all the players/customers are on single player but I honestly don't think anyone believes that for a second- after all this is 2018. People just don't want to play against bots these days. hmm I dont understand how anybody can play online, servers are empty or full, planes are warping in the sky, you shoot at someone and you dont know the outcome, no progression, no awards, promotions. Lots of bad and annoying people etc, Coop career would be good, but since I have no friends in ww2 gaming and with two small kids running around I have to stay in SP career. 1
dburne Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 SP only guy here as well. Absolutely love it! Not so much the QMB, I am all about campaigns whether they be scripted or something like PWCG and the new upcoming Career. Hours upon hours most weeks, flying SP. I try to treat each mission as realistic as I can. I never do air starts, always taking off from my base and flying the mission route. Always returning to base and landing at my airfield. Even park the plane little off runway, and shut everything down. Then I exit the mission to see my results. This is what it is all about for me. Currently spending all of my time in PWCG, but will definitely also be sharing that time with the new Career once we get it. 2
unlikely_spider Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 I'm just like dburne, above. 99.9% single-player, and much looking forward to the new mode. I've also bought both official campaigns and have played some of the excellent community-submitted campaigns. 1
blitze Posted February 18, 2018 Posted February 18, 2018 Fly both online and offline. Full Real in both. PWCG is great and brings the war to life with some advance setting tweeks. AI is not too bad, ok you have to nurse it a bit and flight leaders tend to tear off into the distance leaving flights behind on Climbs but then put on alt cruises slowing drastically before course changes but you get used to it. When fighting, pending on settings, they can be decent, they try evasive tactics, drag and bag and so on and when you are a flight of 2 up against 8+ fighters, well, you will be lucky to make it home. I have had AI break off when damaged and if I am a flight leader and it is not going well for us I will call a return to base and AI responds. That being said, they can lawn dart if not aware of you engaging ground targets, so you have to tell them to attack ground targets to prevent that. Also followed my flight leader in to land once and he crashed short of the runway into trees. Then there is online which can be fun and different pending on which server you fly and people on it. You get to know people on a particular server and you can do quite well working with them on objectives. I like Virtual Pilots Server (Finnish) but I might pop in and take a look at TAW one day soon as it has been a while since ;last I was online there so it would be interesting to see. Online the war seems more static than off but there is good flying to be had on both. I tend to get good formation flying experience offline though LOL. Can't wait to see what the 3.001 changes bring to both aspects of the sim.
Mac_Messer Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 hmm I dont understand how anybody can play online, servers are empty or full, planes are warping in the sky, you shoot at someone and you dont know the outcome, no progression, no awards, promotions. Lots of bad and annoying people etc, Coop career would be good, but since I have no friends in ww2 gaming and with two small kids running around I have to stay in SP career. Same reasons I don`t fly online since 2007. The mp is too shallow and it feels awkward to settle for an online mode that is nothing compared to what online flying was over a decade ago. That said, I had some epic experiences online that cannot be recreated in sp. My favorite was clearing peoples` 6 - when you cruise in your crate and a bit bored, a strayed low&slow Focke yells help 2 clicks away - you take the heading at 600kph full speed ahead, you see the tracers, guy still fights for his life, seconds later I pop the guy who wanted his virtual life - nothing more rewarding for me. Other time a flight of 5 of me and my squadmates were up for good bomber hunting when we got jumped by equivalent Mustang patrol on @6500m. After some heavy maneuvering we got rekt and still I felt it was an awesome mission.
E69_Chipi Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 At the same time, an oft requested multiplayer feature is coming too and I think co-op is going to be more compelling for some folks who may otherwise fly single player most of the time. I know I'm looking forward to some co-op scenarios. I totally agree. Co-op mode is going to be a game changer for me. I like to play online, but I am more mission oriented than score oriented and I often find MP servers not mission oriented.
