Madcop Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 Hello there all skinners .... I just wanted to know whether there is a general rule to follow to rename a "skin.dds" inside the folder "data/graphics/skins/e.g. bF109G2" Are there any rule to respect, e.g number of caracters, space, dots,_ or-. I am asking that because sometimes my skin will show in the Plane Setup window , but once in the game it is replaced by the default generic one ! So I have got to quit the game , go back to "data/graphics/skins/e.g. bF109G2" and change sometimes a dot or a space, to the name of the skin. Then go back to the game and try again...until it shows in the game . Thanks for your help. Madcop
BlackHellHound1 Posted February 14, 2018 Posted February 14, 2018 I don't know what characters make a skin not work but I do know what works for me. What works for me is the use of numbers, letters and spaces. No other characters what so ever. Never had problems with skins. I would warn you not to use long names. I haven't had this issue myself but I have heard that this could cause problems. BlackHellHound1
Madcop Posted February 15, 2018 Author Posted February 15, 2018 (edited) O.K. Thank You BlackHellHound. So, as there seem not to be any rules , I'll keep on going with trials and fixes. I'll try your way. eg Fw 190A5 JG54 III 9 Gelb 9 Oblt Schilling 9 8 1943.dds Thanks, Madcop Edited February 15, 2018 by Madcop
TG-55Panthercules Posted February 15, 2018 Posted February 15, 2018 RoF had some very specific rules about skin names, but that doesn't seem to have carried over to BoX. As a precaution, I always follow the RoF rules when creating my own skins, but that doesn't seem to be strictly necessary as I have large numbers of skins from other people with names that don't follow those rules and they seem to work just fine (at least most of them - haven't checked each one specifically).
