Anyone else get neck ache from the constant head movement required because you`re literally in the pit. I do, just the right hand side at the minute. I found flying the Yak-1b to be a pleasure due to the excellent vision. Also I`m finding it hard to close the launcher, only started after installing the Rift but has continued after re-install s of both sets of software.??

Yeah my neck will bother me some from time to time, but I have pain in my neck anyways not from VR - just age...

I never use the launcher to start BoS, only use it when I know there is an update.

Sometimes i also have issues with the launcher.

Try starting it in Adiminstrator mode.

As to neck strain, being in a 1:1 pit is a *lot* more work than with trackir.

A swivel chair helps a little.

swivel chair and taking it easy. a couple times of thinking I was an owl was a lesson learned. don't strain - turn like a slow old man

Welcome to the feel of being a WWII fighter pilot!  (The advantage here is that you will not be really killed, although sometimes you feel like you die...)

To help a bit you can try to use tight belts and thick leather coat...  :P

The real fact is that the limited FOV is the Rift is forcing your neck a few extra degrees. Future VR devices with larger FOV (like Pimax8K) will alleviate this issue.

In my case, I was initially playing ROF/BOS with TrackIR, but three years ago I sttopped using TrackIR at all. The reason for that is I was already exploring VR with DK1/DK2 with other experiences/games and found using the trackIR with ROF/BOS was a really weird thing.

So, in the two previous years before appearing VR in BOS I was not using TrackIR with BOS. Then, when VR arrived to BOS it was a great pleasure to easily looking to the sides!!

Here your neck is missing trackIR, but IMHO, trackIR is like fooling yourself. WWII pilots never were checking six with just turning their heads few degrees.

If you want simulation of the real thing, this is VR.

Regarding swivel chairs, this is up to everyone. In my case I prefer fix chairs, just to be closer to feel what those brave pilots were feeling.

I was talking about that here:

Ideally I would want to add to the equation:

- 360 degrees Roll and Pitch platform moving

- vibrations, forcefeedback,

- G forces

- Wind, low temperatures, rain,

- Smells (fuel, oil, gunpowder,..)

- Being hungry , tired, sleepy, wanting to piss, etc

You can create the last 3 by staying up late, turning the heating off , eating nothing and drinking lots before starting and for the wind and smells I find mushrooms do that for me!!

Yes, I have swivel chair and it certainly helps some.

Even with that, when I am turning my head I oftentimes feel my neck crack and pop in ways it never normally does lol. That age thing again.

Dang I hate getting old.

One thing is for sure, you are not going to be able to see what is directly behind you, like you can say with a Track IR and the way you can look around with it like you are an owl.

Situational awareness is key, and luckily with VR SA is so much better than say on a monitor. Main thing is to not let them get on your six.

The 1:1 positional tracking along with everything being virtually life sized and all around you, is an experience that just can not be beat - at least for most.

If you have a swivel chair and you don't mind taking your feet off the rudder pedals you can see your 6 quite OK. Actually the headrest on the Bf-109's were more annoying with TrackIR than in VR. It's more natural to find that small space where you can look past the headrest on the side.

Years of spills, wipeouts, and age (from BMX, MTB, skateboarding, and surfing) have all caught up on me. I can’t do anymore of those because of bad back, neck, and shoulders so a swivel chair-mounted H.O.T.A.S help me get my kicks through this game.

The joys of getting old, eh?
