taffy2jeffmorgan Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Hi. I'm still trying to master this yawing effect which is more noticeable in the Me 109, I'v mastered the take off with lots of right rudder, but landing is still a hit or miss affair ? I'm coming in wheels and flaps down, but if I correct the line of approach just sightly with the rudder I start waddling like a duck. [ I'v already written off a whole staffel ]And in a dogfight it seems that the gun button is connected to the rudder? the very second that I open fire that waddling starts again. I have been flying combat flight simulations for a very long time, but BOS is a real test of ones flying and combat skills ! Talking of flying skills, I wonder if the completed sim will have an option to decrease or dampen the yawing effect, I say this because there will be a lot of new comers out there and BOS could be their first introduction to flying let alone combat. One other thing is the dogfight, I have never considered myself a crack shot but ounce I'v yawed myself to the enemy and I can hold him in my sights a two second burst of machine gun fire and he's smoking, This is not a complaint, but I think of a Hurricane or a Spitfire in Cliffs of Dover where you could empty all your 303's and the German or Italian just flew on ? But the main thing is I'm still enjoying myself, and when all is finished this combat flight simulation will be the bench mark for all that follow. Cheers. JM.

Do you use stick twist rudder? Sounds like a generous deadzone on the yaw axis would help you. Pull the stick around as if in a dogfight, while you watch rudder input in the axis setting screen, see if you get any rudder input. Curves help in general, with sens set to 0.22 it's quite controllable. When you let the rudder return to center, need to do it slowly if you want to keep crosshairs on a target. To me it feels like yaw behaviour is similar to other WW2 sims released in the past 3 years.
Emgy Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 Also a common issue with IRL shooting is that people tense up and they jerk the trigger instead of smoothly pulling it. So if you're jerking the trigger on your stick in combat, you could be twisting the stick slightly. This behaviour won't necessarily be seen outside of combat. I would add a big deadzone (30% of the slider, not joking) and see if it helps. Reduce it and keep tweaking until you can fire in combat without unintentional rudder.
LLv34_Flanker Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 S! The rudder is very hard to get right to avoid "wobble-o-rama". No surprise there is almost zero wobbling in the LagG-3, a lot easier to fly in that sense and with trims it will be stable as a rock. I have a hard time believing that these planes wobbled that much all over the sky at those speeds. But again WIP so we will see how this develops. Better test and give feedback = devs react if applicable, rinse and repeat.

I do think that the FM of the rudder could be looked at a bit as the plane does not change course as much as it should with ruddering and tends to just skid and return to the same heading. It does eventually turn some but a little to slowly.

It was most noticable before when doing the ground target missions but seems to be better now at least at altitude where there is no ground referance.
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 Thanks for that everyone, I shall check out the settings on my joystick. JM.
