Rjel Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 I'm looking for a game that I played as a demo years ago but I can't remember the title. The demo was great fun but I never was able to play the full game. I've tried to find it on Steam but I'm not sure when just reading descriptions of a game. As I remember it the game starts with the player's character meeting three other American GIs and talking to them briefly. The scenario is about destroying a multi tubed rocket launcher. Some of the different parts of the mission are destroying a tank, fighting through a village, attacking a destroyed church defended by machine guns from the graveyard and finally attacking the rocket launcher with satchel charges after wiping out several pill boxes. Does anyone know the title?
unlikely_spider Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Sounds like either Medal of Honor or Call of Duty to me.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 That's Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30! I loved that game, one of the best shooters with a compelling story to go with it as well. Finished Hill 30, Earned in Blood and Hell's Highway. The last one upped the drama a bit at the expense of some realism, but it's equally intense. Supposedly there's a fourth one in development but I don't know anything beyond that.
unlikely_spider Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Oh yeah, I played those too. Forgot about them. Those were good.
Rjel Posted February 10, 2018 Author Posted February 10, 2018 I found some Brothers in Arms videos. Definitely similar gameplay but the graphics don't look as I remember them. Maybe those are a later game in the series? I think I played the demo in 2001/02 maybe.
Trooper117 Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 All three of the BIA series games are still on my hard drive... brilliant stuff, as is Hidden & Dangerous 2 and Sabre Sqn... 1
Rjel Posted February 10, 2018 Author Posted February 10, 2018 I found the demo again online. It was Medal of Honor - Allied Assault. I'll have to track it down as Steam doesn't appear to have it. I appreciate everyone's replies. I'll have to try out Brothers in Arms too. Looks good.
kestrel79 Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 All those early CoD, Medal of Honor, BiA PC shooters were great. Call of Duty: United Offensive was a really fun one. 2
Danziger Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 Return to Castle Wolfenstein was pretty cool. Like a sci-fi Medal of Honor.
Jade_Monkey Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 BiA has a tactical element that the others are missing. All good games though.
MacLeod Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 I found the demo again online. It was Medal of Honor - Allied Assault. I'll have to track it down as Steam doesn't appear to have it. I appreciate everyone's replies. I'll have to try out Brothers in Arms too. Looks good. One of the best games ever made IMO. Definitely check it out!
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Rjel, it's available digitally through Origin.
BOO Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 "If it moves shoot it. If it screams in German shoot it again!" BIA Hells Highway was/is one of the best games Ive played. The Road to Hill 30 had some lovely little cut scenes that actually helped develop some feelings for the characters and the irreverent humour was genuinely funny and well placed. The third one (Holland) I only played on PS3 but it was a lot less enthralling and the naff "Brothers in Arms" gun story arc/Legget Doppelganger/lost cause/descent into madness storylines clumsy to say the least. Ill not even start on the bizarre accent of the oirish tank commander or jarring "am I still playing the same game" feeling that follows. Best of all though was the small scale squad action- you don't save Stalingrad on your own. You don't win the Bulge on your own and you don't shoot down 76 109s flying impossibly odd AoAs in 5 mins whilst single handedly manning every gun in your costal command B17 that's been requisitioned into bombing Berlin for some unknown reason. You are a tiny cog in a big machine but one that happens to be able to dictate what your two fire teams do. Very Cool. If it still plays on you version of windows -get it.
Rjel Posted February 14, 2018 Author Posted February 14, 2018 Thanks for the help and suggestions. I plan on trying out the Brothers in Arms game. Looks great. Thanks for the link 216th_Lucas_From_Hell If any of you have never had the chance to see the 1960s TV series Combat! (where the exclamation point was a bayonet) it’s well worth watching IMO. I was a little kid when the show was broadcast but parts of it stuck with me for decades until I had a chance to watch again on DVD. The sound of the German 88s screaming overhead and the ricochets echoed in my head growing up. The show starred Vic Morrow as Sgt. Saunders and Rick Jason as Lt. Hanley. I always wondered if the original G.I. Joe was modeled after Rick Jason. Very similar in appearance. Vic Morrow was great in this show as he was in almost every role I’ve ever seen him play. Very intense actor. Jason had a very commanding presence too. The rest of the cast was very good. A lot of rather big names guest starred on the show, both established and the up and comers. There have been several Youtube pages with episodes if anyone want to checked them out.
