Skins: what is available and where?

The subject of skins for PWCG came up.  To flesh out the skin set I need historically accurate or at least plausible skins for units that I have in PWCG.  Several requests in this regard:

1. Is anybody making eastern front skins that are appropriate to the maps that we have?  If yes, where can they be downloaded and can I use them in PWCG?

2. Using them in PWCG only works if I am allowed to package them.  I cannot ask users to hit hundreds of different links to get skins.  With that in mind, can I package them for download?

3. Anybody willing to make skins for PWCG?

What I need in order of priority:

1. Skins with just the squadron markings to use as defaults.

2. Skins with squadron markings and generic personal markings like numbers.

3. Summer/Winter skins and skins by region (corresponding to the maps that we have).

Last: I can do a reasonable amount of skinning myself.  Not the hand made beauties that some folks here can do, but certainly adding unit and individual markings to a template.  References for skins - i.e. profiles?

Another question: Did Russian units have unit markings?  I am not seeing them.  Most of the planes seem to have simple white or yellow numbers.  If they have anything fancier it seems to be a personal marking.  I am not seeing squadron markings.

The Great Patriotic War and the Maturation of Soviet Operational Art is not what you might hope it to be about but you may find it relevant if you haven't already seen it. http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a194152.pdf

It does talk about organisational structure but mostly ground forces.

But i only see reference to 'tactical markings' elsewhere but no description or explanation as to how they were applied apart from mentions of them not being standardized. Maybe you could send emails to Russians about it ?

Or even their state media may be helpful....

Making them up sounds like not the best option unless you have authorization from the party bureau. ;)

Hi

the project interests me but it is a huge of work.
Can you indicate how many squadrons of each type of aircraft are to be expected?

Pat, I have now made the skins for all the Bf109 F-2 and F-4, and tomorrow I will do the G-2 and G-4.

I will upload the F-skins first to my MEDIAFIRE space, so you can check them out.
The G-skins will then follow soon.

Here is a first look - two Bf 109 F-4 from JG 51; the lower a winter camo version...

hi Pat,

based on the Bf-109 F4 skins published by Panzerbar, I created a set of skins with numbers and flight symbols form 1-12 for JG53. I have no clue if they are historically correct, i guess not. i am so ignorant that I don't even know if those are winter or summer skins since they are kind of greyish...

I created them to use it with your campaign and to assign custom skins to each pilot of the sqadron

Edit: I just used the generic information I found on this post

I just realized I created the numbers and flight symbols as photoshop layers in the .dds file.

That means that once the base F-4 SQN base skin is created, the other dds files for the planes 1-12 can be created in a matter of minutes. Just let me know if you are interested and I will send you the .dds file with all the layers.

cheers
