Long-persisting unfixed bugs / issues. Meanwhile expansions get minted.

I'd like to just add these here as a reminder and as something that really stops me from purchasing further expansions in il2, as I feel the current focus is on churning out the new aircraft / maps, instead of fixing the most glaring problematic bugs that persist for the last 1-3 years of the game.

I do also encourage to bring up other persistent bugs that I have missed.

- Log-in screen stutters and delays. Occasionally takes 2-3 minutes to log into the game. Constant stutters and frame drops upon login (Minor issue)

 - Multiplayer server joining - having to wait for the map to load only to get kicked out back to the main menu or server lobby selection screen. Only to have to find the server and try again... only to get kicked out again. Especially happens when servers are busy with all of the players re-logging after map change. (MAJOR issue)

- Indicator compass (overlay HUD) getting stuck, occasionally even in-aircraft compass getting stuck (have not had this happen most recently). Fix is to re-connect or re-fly the aircraft until the bug goes away. (average issue)

- Model loading stutter - if the game hangs for half a second be sure to check your surroundings as it usually means a plane you have not previously seen has entered  your 10km view range. Likely an enemy. Approaching some aircraft causes further stutters (model loads a higher LOD version?). Nowadays many people play with >8GB of RAM. Having an option to fully load game assets into the RAM is available to many. Why not allow us to do so at the very least? (MAJOR issue)

Overall the constant habit of this game to stutter and hiccup throughout the entire experience does not attribute to a good "polished" feel it should have this many years into the development. Its a pity that the devs are motivated to grind new content for cash and thus these bugs get ignored, as long as they do not break the game completely.

While I am just a single player, I feel these issues are important enough for me to consider against buying into the further expansions of this game. And I do not even bring up more difficult QOL / engineering issues, such as multiplayer sync, disconnect handling (why not just auto-level and wait for player to reconnect for 1 minute?) and so forth.

I remember this from RoF. I doubt it will ever be fixed.

Frankly none of the above are show-stoppers. At least they aren't for me. While they can be annoying they aren't going to stop me from playing. This is a great game and I can put up with one or two imperfections as the devs do a fantastic job of bringing it all to life.

Exactly the reason why they get no attention. It won't stop me playing either, I love the game. But I feel cheated that such long-lived bugs are still there. Its OK if they don't get attention as soon as they get discovered, but when it has taken years and they are still there I have to assume that the final product will still have them. And that just gets frustrating.

I agree with you there. I also really love this sim, and I'm glad that it will get continued and made better.

But these bugs not getting worked out makes me think, that they just don't care - people buy it anyway.

The IL-2 Crew could improve their image - the way the customers feel treated by them - a lot by taking some time to care for these bugs or glitches.

What are your pc specs? It sounds like half of these are related to your PC performance.

I agree that loading a whole MP map to get kicked out is absurd. That problem was solved many years ago in PC games, it really shouldn't be there anymore.

I think if you take time to read through the patch notes history there is a large amount of bug fixing that has taken place....perhaps it is just a perception thing  ;)

The only one on that list that is an issue for me is the kick from multiplayer. Hopefully the devs will work on it eventually.

32GB RAM, i7k, SSD. Running the game off of a ram-disk helps a lot, but still the issues are there.

@Darkpilot

That only makes things worse - they fix all of these other things, but somehow these QOL bugs that happen every time one launches the game and tries to play are left unnoticed.

Aaaaand the thread got moved... This was a general discussion of the issue of the bugs left unnoticed and the dev's priorities. I was not submitting bug reports or trying to triage them. As I am sure these bugs are previously reported.

Please do remember what Jason has stated, 1C only has 1 coder.

They are not a large outfit yet in the last year, what they have brought to us has been quite an outstanding effort.  Maybe those bugs will get squashed in the upcoming release, maybe, like the AI issues, they will be dealt with later on.  The platform is constantly updating and evolving.  That is, all parts, BoS, BoM, soon to be released BoK and then BoBP.

The main bug for me is - me ))

Checked the link you posted, and okay - I think I should withdraw my last line.

But the above-mentioned problems are there, not only for me, but also to friends I spoke with.

So, when you did and still do so many updates and patches - maybe this was not on the lists before?

You should also consider that your PC specs might be playing a roll in your performance.  Just as a test I opened BOS and it took a total of 10 seconds to get into the main menu.  If you are using a standard HDD as opposed to a SDD it will take much longer for things to load and will also cause in game studders when new areas of the map have to be loaded in.

Graphics card settings also play a major role in how smooth the gameplay is.

Getting kicked out of servers may very well be because of a bad ping(slow internet connection) as the servers are designed to automatically kick high pings so other players don't suffer from slowed down gameplay.

I have no studder or hickup issues and 60fps with all settings on the highest except for shadows which are on high.

Here's my specs for reference:

Windows 10 1709

I7 4770

12GB ram

gtx1050ti   388.13 driver

500gb Samsung SSD

On my rig and with VR, my experience is the same - very smooth and no stutter or hiccups. Loading time is pretty good as well.

I used to have every one of those problems. Then the devs magically fixed them all on the exact same day i got a new computer! Coincidence I'm sure.

Now the only one I see is the getting kicked repeatedly on trying to log into a server and at map rotation. Doesn't happen all of the time, but enough to be annoying.

GPU? Sorry if its posted on signature, it doesn't show up on mobile site. Sounds like you might want to try a fresh windows install, or at the very least a fresh driver install (using Display Driver Uninstaller utility).

Did you upgrade mobo/cpu without a clean windows installation?

1080ti. Win10 is around 4 months old. All drivers up to date.

The bugs I listed were persistent across 3 different hardware configs that I played on. It really isn't an issue of my setup.

Edit : They are also present for my friends who also play IL2:BOX. I wouldn't be writing this as a "bug" if it was just 1 config and just myself.

A team of 30 people with one coder...I think they should hire one or two more, codding is hard and tedious, a single man can't do all the job, I mean he can, but they will take forever to fix things or add new things

jaffacake I think the compass thing is linked to the spectator bug. So you join a MP map, pick an airfield, and plane and click start, but nothing happens, you may hear your plane spawn but you are still on the map. only way to get to your plane is to click anywhere on the map, and then the greyed out start button turns to spectate. When you click spectate it then takes you to your cockpit. for the duration of this flight the virtual compass no longer works. It's not such a big deal for me because I tend to fly with the HUD off anyway.

With BoX increased MP popularity over the last few months though I am finding that the servers I enjoy most seem to be be crashing more frequently, and this is jarring me off because of the frequency especially on TAW during prime EU time in the evenings. 1CGS can only do so much with the resources that they have though. I'm sure these things will be addressed at some point. I'm hoping that with the release of the new career mode that SP is going to be so much fun, that MP will be less busy, servers will be less stressed and hopefully more stable. Especially when you factor in people playing co - op with friends instead of playing on traditional MP servers.

Time will tell, and we shall see

About the server re-kickin.The Dserver for sure needs some attention , still in order to save yourself some frustration remember this,

Atthe beginning of a mission when many pilots join the server, the program has the tendency to drop out some of them.

Usually people will try immediately to reconnect but it takes a min or so for the Dserver to actually remove the name from its list.

When you reconnect the Dserver drops you because it sees the same person trying to join again.

So give it a min until you retry.

Game runs fine and has so much goin for it but... the AI issues and other problems noted here are ongoing and ignored while the next pretty cockpit or tank is built. It's getting old.

I can understand art assets being developed while bugs go unfixed, completely separate departments, but perhaps they should consider hiring some more QA and programmers. I wont be buying more expansions if force feedback continues to cause camera stutter and/or lag.

Please do remember what Jason has stated, 1C only has 1 coder.

Actually Jason stated they had at least 2 developers, one for the UI, and another one for the FM, the AI code, the net code, rendering... In any case, too few.

But why should that give them a free pass? It's up to them to prioritize their resources, and it's fine for customers to express a wish that more emphasis should be put on bugs.

To be fair, Jason has said he would love to hire more developers, but that's not easy to do. It's not even specific to this studio or gaming, I think most of the software industry feels that way.
