Personal Trackhat Opentrack Settings

Here are my Opentrack settings. They seem to work okay for me although they COULD do with being a little 'slower' or 'smoother'...

Anyone got any tips or suggestions with reference to their settings? The problem is, however appealing Trackhat is (and it IS!), there isn't actually an awful lot of practical and intuitive reference out there with regards to gaming (this one included). Oh yeah, this is for the left - handed Clip, by the way.

That looks like an earlier version of opentrack. You should try the 2.3.9 release version as it has been improved. Also, what do your camera settings look like?

Ha! Thanks for that heads-up!! Here's the camera settings... I aint set up the mapping yet.

In the camera settings change the FPS to 100 Hz and your actual FPS should reach 75 down in the status block, should smooth things out some. My mappings are very similar to yours, very linear, but I like it that way.

Cool, thanks for that. Much appreciated. I'll give it a whirl and let you know how it goes.

Glad to help out.

It seems to have worked out with that FPS change... all good. Good name, by the way. Funnily enough my Missus came home from visiting earlier on and told me that we're expecting our first GREAT grandchild, Gramps!!  :salute:

Congratulations to you and your family! I think I have a few years before the great grandfather title hits, but you never know! Glad you got OT sorted out.

Attached please find a pdf of my OpenTrack v.2.3.9 settings for TrackHat Left - Handed Clip. Many thanks to Gramps for the tip about the OpenTrack update!! I hope this helps people...

Here's a video of the settings in - game. The couple of times it jumps are only me hitting the self - centering which I do tend to do on occasion.

Just tried altering the camera settings to 320px x 240px @ 120 Hz FPS. That seems to work as well. Very smooth because of the higher rez.

I also have a question in relation to OpenTrack.

For some reason my webcam settings change back to default after rebooting my computer.

An issue I never had with FreeTrack actually.

What can it be?

Any help appreciated.

Try saving the profile on the OpenTrack interface where it says default.ini? I created a new profile and just named it Il-2 and that seemed to work for me.

I tried but after reboot camera settings were back to default as before.

But while trying it out instead of fiddling around back and forth with sliders of my camera settings again I dragged all sliders to 0 (except 'Lighting') and unchecked all boxes.

And in game behaviour of my headtracker improved. Doing it this way it takes only a few second each time.

So I can live with that.

In a certain way your answer did help.

Cheers and happy flying!

Okay, glad to hear you've (sort of) got it sorted out. It should still not reset though. What camera are you using? If it's the PS3Eye? If it is, are you also using CL-Eye Test?

Posted

If you are talking about your camera's actual exposure settings, etc, they are controlled by the software for your camera, with a PS3 eye you use CL-eye program. OpenTrack does not save the physical camera settings, just the settings in the camera tab. As Raptorattacker asked, which camera are you using?

Indeed, I achieve 140 fps with that resolution I recommend not leaving any dead zone in the curves, although at first it seems to help to aim at the end is a problem, and prevents you from progressing .......... your head should be like a gyroscope without dead zones.

Hmmm, the max fps for the camera at those settings is 125fps. Says on the readout at the bottom. After all, they're not exactly 'cinema quality' cameras, are they? He! He!

My settigs for Opentrack 2.3.9 and settings for CL-test. Change .txt for ini. Resolution i use is 640x480@75fps. Trackir use 640x480x120fps so is better. I use deadzone in x,y,z. Dont use roll beacuse for me is useless. Remeber to set key for center and for zero. Zero is very handy when u shoot, bomb  this is center look forward without input from opentrack.

The one I have is a very simple basic ánd cheapTrust webcam: https://www.trust.com/nl/product/17003-exis-webcam-black-silver

@Gramps, It is just plug and play camera so don't know about any software but doing what I described above is fine with me actually.

Takes only a few seconds.

@Raptorattacker, there is no information in the link regarding my issue.

One funny thing though, each and every time in these DIY instructions they show how to remove the IR filter from the webcam. Seems to be essential. I never went throught the hassle by removing it and also not with this cheap cam.

And my headtracking works like a charm.

Thanks for the help anyway. :salute:

Well, good that your headtracking is working then. If you can put up with resetting it every time you log on then no worries, eh? The IR filter issue is just so's the camera isn't distracted by other spectrums is all. In the software you just turn down the green and blue, which I believe you've already done so... Good luck and good killing!  :salute:

This is really useful. Got my clip today (and the wife and kids are away so I have the time to play with it!) and that resolution trick is really helpful.

Thanks, it’s not that. Pretty sure it’s in the game, since it’s the same behavior as when looking around with a mouse, where it “locks” into a straight ahead view for about 5 degrees panning past the center line.
