Setting a refresh rate

Hi all.  Having some trouble with a 3d surround setup.  I can't seem to convince the game that it needs to run higher than 60 hz.  This was not an issue before for me but my 3d vision stopped working properly some time ago.  I have the framerate set to try for 144hz.... but nothing.  I have vsync turned on, but in fullscreen I get a message in big red letters (thanks nvidia) letting me know I'm trying to run in non 3d mode.  When I turn fullscreen off the big red letters do not appear, but I still seem to be running at 60 hz instead of 120 or 144.  This is the only game giving me this issue at the moment.  I was wondering if anyone else had run into this and what you may have done to solve it.  I know there are not that many 3d vision users out there but I'm hopeful someone has run into this.  Perhaps there is a config setting of some type that needs to be edited?  Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
