hames123 Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 (edited) When is it coming? And will they have updated the missions and plane AI? Edited January 31, 2018 by hames123
Finkeren Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Update 3.001. Likely to be out within a month, at most two, but you know that right? Up to 40 different mission types, most of them new. Likely some minor AI tweaks needed to have them properly follow waypoints in the mountain areas of the Kuban map, but no major changes to AI. You’re fairly active on these forums, I’m surprised to see you ask these questions. 2

I wanted to know if there had been any more news, or a Q&A, or anything like that.
Finkeren Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Latest news is, that 3.001 is in beta and is gonna be an absolutely monstrous update bringing: 5 new planes Career mode for all maps Coop mode 40 mission types Rain-on-canopy effect New oil overheating model (initially only for the new planes I think) Increased terrain render distance out to 150km Improved look of the Stalingrad map (we get actual steppe) -and those are just the highlights.

I wanted to know if there had been any more news, or a Q&A, or anything like that. Well career mode comes when BoK is finished. It could really be pretty much any time between very soon, and the end of March. Hope this helps.
hames123 Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 (edited) I had another thought. For the AI ground attack aircraft, they should have each plane select a target separately and attack it. Currently, they stay in a line formation and circle, diving to attack one target every rotation. This makes them easy to shoot down and takes ages to destroy many enemy targets. Let each plane go for a target on its own, so the planes will not be lined up for the enemy and so they actually destroy several enemy ground targets every run. Edited January 31, 2018 by hames123 1

Yes, that needs some rework, as well as the landings. It takes waaay too long imo.
hames123 Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 Oh yeah, one more thing I just noticed. The Panzer IVs do not fire during their attacks on Soviet lines, making them easy prey for AT guns. In general, tank attacks need more tanks involved, otherwise the AT guns usually just kill them all, and only lose a few in return. Get more tanks to attack, spread them out properly, and then there will be a reason for the ground attack planes to go for them. Currently, you may as well kill the artillery, since 9 times out of 10 the enemy tanks will be wiped out by your AT guns.

Eicio Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 By the way which of the 5 new planes are you waiting the most ?
Finkeren Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 (edited) By the way which of the 5 new planes are you waiting the most ? 1. P-39 2. A-20 3. La-5FN 4. Bf 109G6 5. Yak-7B Edited February 1, 2018 by Finkeren
Herne Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 1. P-39 2. A-20 3. La-5FN 4. Bf 109G5 5. Yak-7B 6: Po 2 ?
Finkeren Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 6: Po 2 ? Would be my #1 if it was coming in 3.001.
Herne Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Would be my #1 if it was coming in 3.001. I was hoping it was going to be, is it coming a bit later then ?
Finkeren Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 I was hoping it was going to be, is it coming a bit later then ? Definitely. Since it's not even in preorder yet, Jason likely haven't even made the decision, if it's good enough to include in the sim. It's fine by me. I'd rather have they take it slow with the 3rd party and make sure they get it right than to rush something out the door.
Eicio Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 1: P-39 2: 109 G6 3: A20 4: yak 7 5: la 5fn I don't know why but I was sure that the A-20 we were getting was going to be a Havoc and I was really hyped like we are going to be able to do anything with it like dive bombing, level bombing, strafing, killing bombers and then I realized that we were to receive A20 b, with the glass' nose... farewell heavy armament and armor
Finkeren Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 On the other hand, the VVS is finally getting something approaching a medium bomber, and a very fast, well armed and sturdy one at that.
Eicio Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 The pe-2 is not that bad, maybe it can't carry a lot of bombs but you're definitly able to be really precise with it, I also find it pretty fast, well armored and his top defense machine gun is quite deadly. He-111 is an easy prey if you don't own the air superiority unlike the PE 2 which kinda can go through.
Finkeren Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Apart from its small bomb load the Pe-2 has one major weakness: Very short firing time on its defensive guns. If your gunner isn't well disciplined, he'll run out of ammo very quickly. This is where the gunner on the A-20 is most likely gonna have an advantage, though his field of fire will be worse.
Eicio Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Oh there I completly agree, the 12m caliber is a huge advantage but when you've got an AI gunner that waste all of the ammo in 3 seconds while the 109 is 1km beside... you feel bad.

[I./JG62]steppa Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 (edited) 40 mission types I think at first there will "only" be 25 in 3.001. The others will come out a little later. A video on the DD185 shows all the gunner stations/american 30. and 50. cals. Blessings! from DD185: "[...]Cooperative multiplayer mode and new statistics system are being tested. The new Career is finished from functionality point of view, it is being tested, debugged and filled with missions and locations content. We plan to have as many as 40 generated mission types; 20-25 of them will be ready for 3.001 and the rest will be added during the course of the year.[...]" Edited February 1, 2018 by [I./JG62]steppa
I./JG2_Sekij Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Update 3.001. Likely to be out within a month, at most two, but you know that right? I tought it suppose to come out in late january or early febuary.
Finkeren Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 (edited) I tought it suppose to come out in late january or early febuary. “Before end of Winter” is the only official ETA, but since it’s apparently in beta now, it’s not gonna be that long. Edited February 2, 2018 by Finkeren
Feathered_IV Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 As long as it takes, I don't mind. I just want them to simulate World War Two. Not try to emulate multiplayer. 1
dburne Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 One thing for sure, it won't be as long now as it has been. 1
Finkeren Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 As long as it takes, I don't mind. I'm not sure I subscribe to that entirely. There has already been one delay of two months, which is perfectly fine and par for the course in software development, but further delays would actually leave me a bit disappointed and slightly worried, that they might not have everything about the career mode on lock-down as well as I thought. In any case, if it's true that 3.001 is in beta, it's not really relevant, because it will be out in days or a few weeks at most.

I think 1CGS have done so well with past releases because the work was more of what they already knew how to do so well, and also knew how long it would take. The updated career mode for the entire series on the other hand is maybe not entirely new (RoF) but not so familiar territory. Much better that the team take the time they need to get it right, than rush to release to deliver something that no one is happy with.
Finkeren Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Of course they shouldn't rush it, but it still would worry me with regard to future titles, if they somehow ended up delaying final release by a total of six months (which is not gonna happen - so no worries) Long delays in software production do mean a lot of extra cost and hence lower profits in the end, giving the company less to work with going forward, so it's never entirely unproblematic.
unreasonable Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 As long as it takes, I don't mind. I just want them to simulate World War Two. Not try to emulate multiplayer. My own view is that with improved AI Bots, MP will eventually disappear from all PC games, to be replaced by MP emulators, complete with trash talk in chat, team killing, cheating etc all performed by Bots. This will eventually be much easier to code than genuine MP, and get rid of the lag issues which are a physical limitation. I have flown very little recently - storing up a backlog of flying hours to devote to full immersion career flying. Certainly I can wait a couple more months. 1
ShamrockOneFive Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Shamrock-whatshischops usually has summaries of things on his stormbirds(?) blog. If you just duck in to check from time to time it might help to visit there too. Thanks I did do a summary which really hasn't changed any since I published it (Dec 9): https://stormbirds.blog/2017/12/09/il-2-patch-3-001-content-and-features-were-waiting-for/ 3.001 is an absolutely gargantuan update for the series. It's been a long wait but I think it'll be worth it. Career mode is easily one of the most exciting features. We know a lot about how it will work... Just want to play it 1

Just want to play it Yep, as a SP only guy between PWCG and this new Career, I am going to have plenty to do for quite a long time. I am so looking forward to this!
PatrickAWlson Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Of course they shouldn't rush it, but it still would worry me with regard to future titles, if they somehow ended up delaying final release by a total of six months (which is not gonna happen - so no worries) Long delays in software production do mean a lot of extra cost and hence lower profits in the end, giving the company less to work with going forward, so it's never entirely unproblematic. I wish there was more tolerance for incremental improvement, especially with a game that remains under continuous development like this one. Fact is the initial release SHOULD NOT be everything all bundled in a massive delivery. It should be a minimum set of features that is fun to play. Get feedback, set priorities, add more. Why? When you put out a monolith initial delivery is much more difficult and small changes in direction are much more expensive. Problem is the screaming and gnashing of teeth that comes if you do that ... "this sux because a feature that I want isn't in it". This is unfair, especially for a company like 1C that has demonstrated such a strong commitment to incremental improvements. But it happens. So ... if you see yourself in this description, calm down when the first release hits. Provide feedback and give the company a chance to work it over time. 1

When I think of types of missions for a flight sim, the following come to mind: - Dive bombing - Level bombing - Escorting bombers - Attacking bombers - Air superiority (offense) - Air superiority (defense) - C.A.P. - Mail delivery? I mean, how many different types of missions can there be? Or are the 40 missions actual scripted missions?

ShamrockOneFive Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 Plus they might count different types of targets as different mission types (which is kind of justified, attacking a bridge is vastly different from attacking an airfield etc.) I think that's definitely what this is. They have to build templates for the generator to work from and those templates are very likely what they mean by different types of missions. IL-2's current Campaign system has very precious few and they just repeat with slight variations. This will have quite a few more and hopefully that combined with the other slight variations will make things feel a whole lot more dynamic and interesting. I don't think it will be a complete revelation but my expectations are for a more varied experience when taken in overall.
