Is a high-precision joystick matrix rather bad for good shooting?

Okay, thanks for your input - I'll try it out in steps of 20 first, then fine-tune SENSITIVITY from there.

Rudder in a right-turn applied "right", I guess? Or must I counter the effect?

 

 

Alright, if there is a "Rudder Assist", I'll try that. Didn't even know this.

My worst fears come true - it may be even more complex to fly and fight and aim and shoot at the same time, than I had expected. :wacko:

Haha, yes, it is complex. But, once you educate yourself enough and it starts to click, it will snowball. At least that was my experience.

 

Pay attention to the slip indicator and watch what it does while you maneuver. For example, when banking left, you will notice that the ball slips to the right. To counteract it and bring the ball to the center, you need to apply some amount of left rudder. While flying, it is a good habit to routinely check the slip indicator and adjust rudder as needed. I believe this is where the phrase "being on the ball" comes from.

 

If you aren't sure what a slip indicator is, Google is your friend. Lots of good info to be had on the wiki pages for aircraft slip and rudder alone.

 

Also, there are times when you don't necessarily care if you are slipping, or you purposely slip. Two examples are extreme defensive maneuvers, and crosswind landings. I'm sure others could provide more examples, too.

To be honest: I had never watched that SLIP INDICATOR ball so far.

I used side-slips for landing manoeuvres, but never thought of it in combat.

 

I will keep one eye on it and see, if that helps. Thank you all!

 

(Maybe more eyes would be great... :cool:  )

The term "step towards the ball" always helps me remember how to keep the ball centered. ;)

Thank you all for your inputs and friendly advice, gents - the problem is solved now!

 

It was mostly a problem of SENSITIVITY and INPUT CURVES for the joystick, it seems.

I had followed a video tutorial for BoS, where the guy had SENSITIVITY on 100%, and DEAD ZONES of 72%.

That was total nonsense for a stick like the THRUSTMASTER T 16.000 M.

 

Following your advice, I have reduced SENSITIVITY to the lowest level now, and I use a linear "input curve".

 

The feeling is incredible! In one sentence:

"I cannot imagine how I survived so much before, but I understand now, why I hit so little and died so often."

A totally new flying feeling!

 

Maybe now I can be of some use for my side, in the servers I like to fly in.

 

Thank you all very much, guys - you made one pilot happy!!!

 

 

PS: I have also put the SENSITIVITY in the joystick setup window to ZERO - did you do the same?

Great! Glad to help! And yes, in that menu I have the bar set to the minimum also (the value is 1).

Good - that's what I had for my test - and it feels like a totally new joystick alltogether!

Great news! Glad to hear that you were able to work it out and flying is going better.

 

Once you have good inputs it makes the whole experience so much more. It sounds obvious but there it is :)
