Tapi Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 In the game, while climbing, kommandogeräte switch supercharger gear at cca 2600 m. I tried this: start climbing at sea level with 1,3 ATA and 2400 RPM and climb without moving throttle lever. From 1500 m up to 2600 there is (IMHO correctly) noticeable steady drop in MP down to 1,1 ATA at 2600 m. After supercharger switches the gear, MP correctly jumps rise to original 1,3 ATA. But while descending (again without throttle lever move) there is no noticeable drop in ATA at all below 2600 m down to sea level. Should not be there drop in ATA as soon as supercharger gear shift back to the lower gear? (I know that shifting to lower gear is not done at the same height as the shift to the higher gear but probably few hundred meters lower eg. 2200-2500 but anyway, drop in ATA IMHO should be noticeable on MP gauge). BTW: speaking of compressor gear shift, the shift itself probably was a very noticeable event (but there is no sound or A/C shaking in the game): Fw. Ernst Scheufele (12./JG 5) remembered: "...My heart always dropped into my pants when the supercharger kicked into high gear at a height between 3 500 to 4000 metres. Each time it seemed as though the aircraft was coming apart". (J. R. Smith & E. J. Creek, FW 190 volume 1 1938-43, Crécy Publishing, 2011, page 157) Next question: what is the correct height of switch to the next gear: 2600 m (as in the game) or 3500-4000 m (see the quote above)
Dakpilot Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 maybe point 12. here is useful? https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/11664-fm-claims-respond/ Cheers, Dakpilot
Tapi Posted January 30, 2018 Author Posted January 30, 2018 (edited) Interesting reading - thx for the link Dakpilot. So the first part of my question is answered by Han at point 12. I can understand why ATA doesn't drop while descending: switch from 2nd to the 1st gear while descending starts at (or below ) 1500 m in the game - so there is no noticeable drop in ATA. CUJO_1970 Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 That harsh a gear switch is not normal. It is result of k-gerat not functioning properly. In early stages of mating BMW801 with FW-190 air frame it was one of the things Kurt Tank demanded BMW engineers get sorted.
Tapi Posted February 1, 2018 Author Posted February 1, 2018 OK, I didn't realize that. Thx for the explanation.
