Possible to shoot Bombs off Bombers?

Well, just flew a  Quick Mission against a Ju-88 in a P-40 and after a Head on Pass saw something fall off. Checked the 88 and there was a Bomb Missing.

Does the AI just drop a Bomb when panicked or did my Bullets cause the Bomb to fall off?

I believe, while incredibly uncommon, that it is possible.

LukeFF also confirmed for me once that rockets can be detonated by being shot with standard ballistic ammunition as well.

Just try flying P-40 v Ju-88 with external Bombs. I had it a couple of times now that the Ju-88 looses 1 or more Bombs, wether through Damage or the AI spazzing out I still don't know.

Was just going to ask if the bomb can explode on the plane if armed. Read a few instances of it happening on B-17's.

I've shot off individual rockets from an IL-2's pylon before. Just watched it fall. If my eyes didnt deceive me I think they've detonated more often than that though. I know there is a video on DerSherrif's youtube channel of him shooting an IL-2 with a rocket falling off afterwards. And this was on the WoL server so AI spazing out isnt part of the equation.

So with that said I'd imagine bombs from a JU-88 are modeled the same.

Why should AI drop only one or two bombs? From my experience with attacks on Pe2s, they drop all bombs as soon as the aircraft is heavily damaged. I never saw anything else happening.

Odd ballistics for a bomb wasn't it? I can't imagine one falling off a plane and going straight backwards. At the very least it would leave the parent plane traveling at the same speed wouldn't it?

Seems like the physics engine treats that bomb like all other debris that come off a plane when you shoot it. Only when it's dropped in a normal way different physics apply.

That might have been a bug, or something has changed since that video was created. Bombs drop off, at least in my experience, and drop like they "should."

Well, it used to happen rarely in the past.. that bombs got shot off. I remember this nice one particularly:

BTW: I think I'll make another High Alpha for the Spitfire. It's incredible fun.

Absolutely, it would lose its speed through drag much slower and lose altitude during this time, and of course it would not turn around 180°.
