Tora_Tora_Tora Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Hello all I have been playing IL2 since the first version, I have various DVD's of diffent flavours of it lying about. Recently I bought COD via steam then got the Blitz added last night...still to try that My question is can I import all the planes from all the versions I have to the latest version..or do I have to stick with the ones each version comes with? Can all the chapters so to speak be rolled up into one place? Playing this now with my two boys, one 6 and one 4...funny to think I played this before they were born!
LLv34_Temuri Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Playing this now with my two boys, one 6 and one 4...funny to think I played this before they were born! You didn't. The current Il-2 Battle of X, Cliffs of Dover, and "old" Il-2 1946 are different series. You can't "import" planes from series to series.
Lensman Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 As stated, the versions are not compatible. I'd very much advise you to purchase 'Battle of Stalingrad' (at least) because the 'BOx' series (Battle of Stalingrad, Battle of Moscow and the pre-order Battle of Kuban') are superb and the latest development. 4

I wrote a handy guide for getting through the initial confusion of which version is which: https://stormbirds.blog/2017/03/12/which-il-2-should-i-buy/ (Note: I need to do a 2018 update - a few things are out of date) Definitely recommend the IL-2: Battle of series as its the most recent and the one receiving the biggest volume of updates. You'll be starting fresh and buying battles/aircraft/maps/campaigns in different packages. Do it during a sale and save a ton of money too. Edited January 26, 2018 by ShamrockOneFive

BP_Lizard Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Hello all My question is can I import all the planes from all the versions I have to the latest version..or do I have to stick with the ones each version comes with? In the case of BoS, BoM, BoK, and the upcoming Battle of Bodenplatte, all the planes (stock and collector’s), maps, and missions are integrated into one game. Each works as a standalone should you decide to only buy one of the series.
Nil Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Ok cool...thanks. So drawback is im starting from zero again but plus is there is a new shiney version I havent played yet Ill get one of the battles as you suggest Excellent machine guns at the ready! I come from the old IL2 mylself . IL2 BOX is the pur gem and the only true successor in my opinion. I am also a real life light airplane and glider pilot, when I miss piloting, I hop up in my Junkers 52 and have fun!!
Porkins Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 My advice: if you get just one, go with Kuban. The map looks awesome and I think the plane set is the best yet. Of course, if your favorite planes are in a different BoX, go with that. 1
Lusekofte Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 Bos series is a good first entry combat simulator, Cod require more planning, more vital to have a wingman/ leader , and it demands a bit more. Visual effects , dynamic flight and feel is better in BOS series, but COD is more complex and to me more rewarding. Both can be enjoyed together ofcource. I think both earn the title best WW2 cfs , each in their own way, and based on subjective opinions ofcource. To me both depend on eachother in order to keep number up in the genre
DD_Arthur Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 To me both depend on eachother in order to keep number up in the genre Hmmm.....you mean we're depending on the three hundred to four hundred people worldwide who play CLoD to keep the genre going?
