I'm trying to decide between VKB Gunfighter and VKB Gunfighter PRO and need advice.

I play only IL-2, but may try DCS World in the future. Currently I use Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2 (without FFB). It works fine, I never tried any other controller so don't have anything to compare it to - besides crappy joysticks from my Sinclair ZX Spectrum gaming in the 80s -  Anybody remembers Top Gun or Tomahawk sims? :)

Reading reviews it sounds like having higher quality controller makes a difference and so I want to try it. I pretty much settled on either VKB Gunfighter or Gunfighter Pro, both with the modern combat grip. The Pro is the version with 8" extension. I'm intrigued by the Pro as I can imagine it providing finer level of control. The only problem is that I can't simply sit it on top of my desk and play, I would need some sort of floor structure to mount it to, which means another expense and another piece of equipment I need to store somewhere and move. I don't have a dedicated play area, which means when I play I need to set things up from a closet and then take it down. So basically I'm trying to decide if having the 8" extension is worth the extra effort of dealing with bigger equipment - any thoughts?

And to add, I placed order for MFG Crosswinds pedals that I could place under my desk. The Gunfighter is the next upgrade. And whenever VKB releases throttle controller, I may go for that as well.

Thank you.

Thanks for response Sokol1, it look very interesting. Do you own the Gunfighter Pro? What's your opinion on the benefits of the 8" extension?

I own the Gunfighter Pro with a MCG Pro, benefits would be precision (once you get used to the change in joystick throw). You dont need to run any curves to help with sensitivity in the middle and therefor maintain precision throughout the stick range.  As an example, training offline and hitting tanks with the Stuka 37mm gun became much simpler to make the fine adjustments ensure a hit onto the rear deck.

Negatives - It will take you time to adjust to the extension. I found it took 4 weeks (~50 hours in total)  to get gunnery close to where it was prior to getting the new stick. I was smacking into planes and the deck as I hadn't built the muscle memory to move the stick far enough quickly enough. With a desktop stick its just a few centimeters and a quick flick of the wrist.. Now its ~40cm side to side.

For those wanting to get a Gunfighter and/or MCG grip, good luck.

Delay after delay.

My Gunfighter Pro, still sitting here new in the box, will be a year old soon - and I am still waiting on getting the MCG Pro grip for it. Initially was going to be available in summer of last year, then pushed back. Then January, then Feb, now end of March. Assuming it does not get pushed back yet again.

Delay after delay. And of course I have also already invested in a Monster Tech Extended Mount for it as well, which was not cheap.

I am very much beginning to have regrets of wanting to try out VKB.
