TexasWarbird Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 (edited) I'm sure Admins will probably open this and expect this to be another post demanding for added content or a list of expectations from people who assume to know more about your company than you do. But it's not - it's just an open letter to thank/congratulate you for all the effort being shown to this title(s) and note a change I've noticed in this flight community. (A little break from all the demands and expectations people constantly ask from you)This community has expanded quiet more than usual over the holiday sale with a noted spot on page 6 of the simulation tab for steams top sellers. With the growth, it's brought in some very fine folks. But with growth - it has also attracted some not so fine folks. (Who can be located if you check some posts that Bearcat has had to lock.) Whom I hope will not divide or harm this title or community. [Edited] This community and sim has been a great collection of fine folks that I've come to be proud to be a part of. Without a doubt there is no other alternate sims I could seek out if this one were to cease. With how great this product has become in terms of realism and continual expansion is something I've come to greatly appreciate and continue to admire..So even if this post becomes buried with into everything else..I thank the Developers for there continual growth and greatly appreciate the open communication you have been giving to our community. I will do my part and continue to invest and buy as many of your products as I can as they are made available and I know many more will do the same. (S)! Now stop reading and get back to enjoying IL2.. Edited January 26, 2018 by Bearcat Current political reference. 5
OrLoK Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 doh, duped into opening this. Yup, it's a great game. Not perfect but then again what is? For me, the best WWII flight sim.
ShamrockOneFive Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 With growth you always get a little more tension here and there but we've added some awesome people to the community on the whole and I'm excited to see the series to continue to grow. It had a bit of a rough start but its doing the right things with the resources that they have. Honestly, I feel there is a renaissance going on in the flight sim community after years of not being quite sure where things were heading. Things are looking up! 1
Finkeren Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 For the past few years I have been thankful, that this didn’t turn out to be another dead end for flight simming the way ClOD did (regardless that it has now been resurrected) and the way DCS 1944 kinda did. Instead we have a product that is continously improving and expanding at a steady pace, and that is indeed something to be thankful for. With 3.001 I think we can finally say, that we have a full-fledged WW2 flight sim in every respect, even if it is still not perfect.
blitze Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 I'm personally happy to support something that covers this genre of simming and with continual development. The development model of this sim is great in the fact that every update and new piece of code also improves the whole package. Yes, maybe down the track things can be revisited like maps or aircraft models from previous years but it seems to be happening and the commitment of the developers to their product is wonderful. It is also a pleasure for me to be able to provide many of you online flyers a target for which to shoot. You and of course AI AA who also enjoys taking my aircraft apart piece by piece
OrLoK Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 (edited) I find it interesting that many of us complain (me included) about the small inaccuracies. To me, although awkward, its kind of cool as it means the devs have got so much right. I was following in camera view a 109 that got knocked out today. After the pilot ejected the damaged plane's prop started to turn with the sheer speed. There was a sound for that. Astounding attention to detail. It wasnt "needed" but it was there. When we start moaning about the small stuff it shows, to me, that the devs are going in the right direction. Edited January 25, 2018 by OrLoK

Whom I hope will not divide or harm this title or community. But as one of our previous American presidents stated "We must never remain silent in the face of bigotry. We must condemn those who seek to divide us." and so I'm here typing this post..and I condemn the bad as much as I can. This community and sim has been a great collection of fine folks that I've come to be proud to be a part of. Now stop reading and get back to enjoying IL2.. Your sentiments are very nice. With that said, threads getting locked are typically from the usual suspects. I've been guilty of it myself as well. Despite appearances, folks typically get fired up because they are passionate about the genre and historical accuracy (according to their perception of the most accurate sources) and have been with the IL2 series / flight sims in general for decades. I wouldn't attribute what you're seeing to "new guy syndrome" or anything like that. Are you yourself new here?
Gambit21 Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 I'm constantly shocked and amazed at what they can accomplish with such a small team in the time-frame that they do. Not only that, they routinely under-promise and over-deliver. Stress has to be peaked about now, so sending them good thoughts is likely most appreciated. 1
Necrobaron Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 I've only recently started following these forums and maybe the admins are just really on the ball but I will say this community overall does not seem nearly as toxic as the old Ubi forums back in the day... While not perfect (what sim of this complexity is?), I think this current gen of IL-2 is great and obviously supported and advanced by those that care. In whatever way it might be lacking, I'd say there's a every reason to think that shortcomings will continue to be addressed and improved as the product continues to grow and evolve.
Field-Ops Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 I'm definitely thankful that this development team exists. I dont think I'd be as fired up for CFS games if I was left to the other products out there. Its not so much a jab at other dev teams work as they do a fantastic job in their own right and the pace seems to be the norm across the genre. But this dev team dishes out excellent content in such a short amount of time and with such a clear plan and goal on what thy want to portray. The content that they do put out and in the amount of time seems like they have the manpower of an Ubisoft studio sometimes (so glad they arent partnered with them any more). I havent been this excited about a game series since the old Tom Clancy days.
Beazil Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 I'm not sure how big this development team is, but I recall Jason posting on several occasions that the team is a "small" one, and they can only accomplish so much at a time.... Bugger that. These guys are a model of what a focused team with a common vision can achieve. Obviously they have great leadership. They must have some right awesome talent working for them as well. I've never seen a team accomplish so much in such a small amount of time, with regular development updates and each patch being a minor quantum leap over it's previous iteration. They deserve all the recognition this community can give them. I only hope it continues to grow and they attract more people to flight simulators in general. Sure, nothing proceeds at the development pace that we fans would like to see, but we are a fickle bunch. Mind you, so is this team from what I see. Shamrock made reference to a flight sim renaissance. I'm glad to be a small part of it - even as a lowly consumer. 3
neofightr2 Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 I will add by saying how I appreciate the fact that they are revisiting their maps and missions as they develop new tech for the newer modules. It shows they have pride in their work. Oh and getting VR working and working well really hooked me on this sim. As I stated in other threads, I am now a lifetime customer because of their outstanding level of detail and quality. 1
Adj Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 There is no other WWII flight sim I could envisage using. The team are always looking for ways to improve the game whilst adding more content. From these forums I gain so much information. For all of this I am very grateful.
