=X51=VC_ Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 I asked before why throttles are so expensive and the answer was basically "because they are". I'm still toying with the idea of getting one, currently hovering on the Thrustmaster TWCS. To give you an idea, I consider that already expensive. And it seems to only have one main slider and one additional rotary. Is there nothing else which is cheap and simple with several sliders and/or rotaries? At this stage I might consider replacing my JS (even though im happy with it) if there is an option of a solid one with several inbuilt throttle sliders or rotaries. Even the ancient Logitech Wingman with only 2 buttons managed to have 3 rotaries but new sticks all just have one throttle and that's it.
Sokol1 Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 (edited) No, in the market are not option of throttle less expensive that TWCS and with more "rotaries". Are the Saitek Quadrant with 3 levers instead "rotaries" and some buttons, for price close to TWCS. But you can make a "game controller" with rotaries up to 8, spending little money - if have tolls and skill. Buy a Arduino PRO Micro (~$6 in eBay), flash the firmware MMjoy2 (free). Put inside a suitable plastic/metal box. Add some potentiometer's - B type (linear response) 10~50k - and knobs. Done. Can use the additional inputs in Arduino for add some push buttons and/or toggle switches. This "device" will be seen by Windows/Games like any other joystick and with a name of your choice. Dakpilot Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 I have often toyed with the idea of using an actual throttle unit such as above, with a controller unit and some high quality pots they are freely available and around $60 last time I looked from aircraft suppliers, if reliable/strong enough for real aircraft (homebuilts) they should last in sim world. I have used a Saitek unit for a number of years and it is still holding up, they are not exactly 'high quality' pieces but do the job, have heard many issues of low quality pots spiking, but maybe I have just been lucky? Cheers, Dakpilot
