CDSsxcccy Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 (edited) Special recommendation: Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS HOTAS Controller Edited May 14, 2018 by CDSsxcccy
Sokol1 Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 (edited) "Thustmaster HOTAS Warthog is the best choice", for the procedural simulation of DCS A-10 (or other jets), yes. For WW2 dogfight Baur, VKB, VPC solutions is way better. Edited February 19, 2018 by Sokol1
[CPT]CptJackSparrow Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Virpil, for me atleast, is worth the international and currency conversion.
dburne Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Virpil, for me atleast, is worth the international and currency conversion. Mine has sure been worth it, have quite a number of hours on it now and it is not missing a beat.
Uufflakke Posted February 19, 2018 Posted February 19, 2018 Good thread. I also need a new joystick and between € 50,- and € 100,- is what I want to spend on it. I still have to deal with my old Logitech Attack 3. The Thrustmaster T-16000 and the VKB Gladiator Mk.2 seem to be recommended the most here. I prefer to have the more solid looking VKB Gladiator over the black/orange coloured Thrustmaster. Problem is that the VKB Gladiator is sold out and not available anymore. According the information production stopped. History. That makes the choice easier for me then.

Also can use the TARGET software with it, if you are into that kind of thing.
Sokol1 Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 (edited) I also need a new joystick and between € 50,- and € 100,- With the demise of Gladiator "vanilla", in this price range you are limited between (brand new). - Logitech 3D PRO (potentiometers of low cost/quality in all axes). - Thrustmaster HOTAS X (pot and electronics of low cost/quality - not TARGET compatible). - Thustmaster T.16000M FCS (HALL sensor in X,Y axes, same of 3D PRO pot in twist and throttle, TARGET compatible). Anyway as seems you are in EU, can get the "cut-down"* OEM versions of Gladiator, under names of Airrow and Javelin (available in Amazon.de ~ € 50), but their QC is a bit of lottery. * With the end of VKB join venture with Asian-Games expect more cut-down in quality of electronics of this OEM versions soon. Uufflakke Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 Ordered the Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS Wednesday and delivery man rang the doorbell an hour ago.
dburne Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 Ordered the Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS Wednesday and delivery man rang the doorbell an hour ago. Congrats! Be sure and let us know you like the setup.
Bilbo_Baggins Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 (edited) Congratulations. The t16000m is a fantastic stick. As some guy said in this thread: "if you lost the fight it's not because you have an inferior stick for sure". This stick has no deadzone whatsoever and the centering is very good. Spring force and axis range are also well designed. People always bring up that it still has pots like the Logitech 3D but honestly I have had 3 Logitech 3D Pro's and those pots are not even comparable to the thrustmaster; these t16000 pots have very good accuracy on the twist rudder axis with no spiking. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by that stick's accuracy. Edited February 27, 2018 by Mcdaddy
Sporally Posted March 27, 2018 Author Posted March 27, 2018 OK, so reading through your posts (and thank you for all the replies) and watching several YouTube-reviews I ended up buying the Thrustmaster T.16000M HOTAS but without the pedals. As I´m a casual player I decide to wait with the pedals to see how much I will be playing Il2. But it could easily end up on my wishlist I found they aren't that much more expensive to buy separately later.

FYI - T.16000M use the same kind of Logitech 3D PRO pots (cheap/low quality) but only in twist rudder and throttle. In main axes - X and Y, is not used pots, is used the same contactless HALL sensor used in Warthog stick (Melexis 3D 90333), virtually spike free and that make all difference in control and longevity. Why T.16000M is the only buy recommend as "entry-level" joystick (since the virtually unavailable VKB Gladiator Mk.II was discontinued). Edited March 27, 2018 by Sokol1
Sporally Posted March 28, 2018 Author Posted March 28, 2018 Maybe I was looking for an entry level joystick afterall. Didn´t know what the price range or what quality you could get for the amount of money I had in mind. But the T.16000M w/throttle suit my budget well. I just tried it out for a little, but had som issues with getting the throttle to work. When I assign the throttle it is registered, but there is no reaction when I´m testing the input. Has anyone got a file I can add with all the setup ready for play or where can I find a guide for setting up the T.16000M w/throttle? Thanks again in advance.
AngryTexan Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 I am living in the United States (Texas) right now and the joystick mentioned in the top comment is unable to he shipped here by Amazon, any other joysticks that have the ability to be shipped to the United States?
Sokol1 Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 (edited) AngryTexan The above recommendations (of 2 years ago) became outdated with the release of VKB Gladiator NXT, the best cost/features/quality in up to $150 range, USA VKB seller have in stock in sock right now. The Little model ($120) is OK for IL-2:GB and others WWII games, Premium has more features (HAT's) for DCS Jets or space games like Elite Dangerous, anyway cost only $ 30 more. https://vkbcontrollers.com/?product=gladiator-nxt Edited November 20, 2020 by Sokol1

As Sokol pointed out, the US distributor has the next gen available. I have the previous generation and it is a real step above the rest, although there are a lot of people that like the T.1600, which is widely available in the US.
Sokol1 Posted November 21, 2020 Posted November 21, 2020 (edited) A thing to notice, due the MS 2020, Star Wars Squadrons "hype" and pandemic shortages, T.16000M/FCS are overpriced now, their normal price (value) is ~$ 70. BTW - Reddit are full of complains about T.16000M twist rudder - that use potentiometer (NXT use contact less sensor - VKB MaRS) "going South" in ~6 mounts, this comment summarize well: " There are 4 t16000m sticks in my house. Not one has a working twist, even after doing all of the recommended modifications and repairs." Edited November 21, 2020 by Sokol1
