This is what I have been doing.

I dont see the difference in quality when not forcing it, and forced at 45 with ASW off is running smooth.

FPS never drop below 45 .

When no forcing it and lots of action then I get a stutter now and then but dont see the advantage, am i missing something?

So far with my new PC lots of planes and action and smooth.

i 7 7800

Ultra settings

all on highest

no HDR

no SSA

Sharpen (i am not sure about that one , sometimes I hate it sometimes I like it)

SS in Oculus 1.8

I am really not sure, I have been running ASW off with no forcing, but then I do not get the stuttering either. And I am hitting 90 fps a fair portion of the time.

It would seem by forcing it to 45 fps with no ASW, it might be more inclined to induce motion sickness. But this also would vary with individuals resistance to it.

I am very prone to it, and with the way I have it set it does not bother me in BoS.

Having said that, I may give it a try just to compare how it does for me.

SS in Oculus 1.8

Hey, 1.8 SS in OTT is a lot!

it is like 3.2 in SteamVR.

Putting that number your GPU should be always at 100% load and bottlenecking the whole thing.

For you 1080 card,  1.4 SS in OTT should be the fair point.

BTW, you said i7-7800. This CPU doesn´t exist. Do you refer to 8700 or to 7800X instead?

regarding OP, I have tried forcing to 45 fps (CtrlNumpad+2) and 90fps(CtrlNumpad+1) and I prefer at 90fps.

I am using 1.8 in Steam VR (not Oculus TT)

Why do you prefer 90fps what do you see different.

To me Ctrl 2 makes it smoother with same quality.

i7-7800 CPU does not appear in the list of the CPU in the market: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php

Can you find it there?

You should refer to i7-8700 instead or i7-7800X.

1.8 SS in SteamVR is quite right for your GPU, I believe you could even go to 2.0 but the visual difference will be very small.

I explained my preference in this post:

Ctrl-2 makes the movement within the cockpit smooth as well for me, while ctrl-1 makes it stuttery and induces neckpain as soon as it goes beneath 80fps. I guess it is simply preference. If you are fine with it motoadve, just roll with what suits yourself best mate!

The i7 7800 is indeed mysterious, I believe motoadve is referring to the i7 7800X  :salute:

Console players say 30fps is as smooth as 60 or 144! :). Nothing will surprise me these days. I definitely see a difference between 90fps and 45. Just look to your sides and focus on the ground moving under your plane. It's far from smooth with 45 fps. Maybe you compare it while sitting on a runway or flying slow bombers but in fast planes stuttering is very noticable.

Your head movements are still 90 fps thanks to ATW even when ASW is off. So basically your own plane moves at 90 FPS (2D rotation and translation), but the landscape moves at 45 FPS.

The difference between 45 FPS and 90 FPS is unfortunately more than clear when you dogfight: when another plane moves quickly on your screen you can see it looks like it trails another image of itself. I really dislike it. It is caused by the fact that it is not really one single image every 1/45 s (like if your screen frequency were 45 FPS), which would be alright, but consecutively twice the same image that is flashed 90 times a second (the actual frequency of your screen).  And your brain does not interpret that as a smooth move.

True haltux.

Gunnery improves much better when flying at 90fps. I have reconsidered based on that, and aim for 90fps now at all times. For that, I backed down on the SS considerably.

This is my result with 90FPS

Very smooth combat, looks more fluid, planes not blurry when going by, but my cockpit head movements seems to be not so smooth.

So when flying behind another plane and shooting at it , its smooth and more clear then 45FPS, after combat ,the head movements not as smooth, tolerable though.

So in single player I navigate with 45FPS and combat with 90FPS.

Maybe a 60FPS option would be the best compromise.

I wish I could program a Joystick button to change those on the fly, or at least change Ctr1 and Ctrl2 to an easier keystroke like Spacebar or Tab.

Is it possible to re program those keystrokes?

That´s strange. At 90fps your head movements in the cockpit should be smooth as well.

BTW, as I saw in this post https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/33660-i7-7800-gigabyte-z370-super-slow-performance/

that your mysterious CPU is the i7-8700. It was just a typo mistake. This CPU is able to go until 4.6 Ghz in Turboboost mode. Be sure you have that option activated in your BIOS. Otherwise you might be running at 3.2 base clock!

We have not any performance measurement of the i7-8700 with IL-2 VR. If you have some time, you could run the IL-2 VR test with your rig. Instructions here:

LOL!

That´s clear enough!   :salute:

There were two typos then, the 8 by the 7 and the missing K.

Being that CPU you will have plenty of room for doing OC. Don´t tell me you are running that CPU with any speed below 5.0GHz when playing IL-2!!!  :)

It is funny how intel is also exploiting the VR thing in their marketing. Certainly for IL-2 is true.

Running it at 4.9 currently, and very stable.
