Flight Log and casualties

When looking at the flight log, I want to confirm the difference between downed, and destroyed. I assume, downed means the pilot bailed out, maybe injures unknown, POW behind enemy lines, destroyed I assume is KIA...

 

Side note, just want to know as I like to do DiD campaign scripts and like to keep a tally of KIA, POW/MIA

I've never stopped to consider these terms might have a meaningful difference. Just checking PWCG, his script uses the term "brought down."

I always just assumed that it meant destroyed but that there was noone to award a kill for it, such as a plane crashing on its own or two friendly aircraft colliding with one another.
